(Kennedy) Whitehall Formerly of Lansing Born September 19, 1908, in died October 28, 1997, at the age of 89. Mrs. Ver-wey had been employed as a Waitress at Eagle Restaurant and Lounge for 18 years. She will be sadly missed by all. Mrs.

Verwey was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Joylyn Snyder. Surviving are 1 daughter, Louanne Upson of Traverse City; 4 sons, Robert R. (Mary) Kennedy of Richland, Ronald C. (Nancy) Kennedy of Traverse City, Richard (Delores) Kennedy of New Era, and Bill Kennedy of Chicago, IL; 1 son-in-law, Paul Snyder of Mason; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

There will be no visitation. The family is being served by the Gorsline-Runciman Co. Ball-Dunn Chapel, Mason. PARK, DR. TY Eaton Rapids Age 72, died Wednesday, October 29, 1997 at his residence following a terminal illness.

Born April 11, 1925, in Winbarnei PA, son of Robert and Mary (Kephart) Park. Dr. Park owned and operated an Optometry business in Eaton Rapids for 40 years and later worked 8 years with Cooptical in Lansing. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Eaton Rapids and was a member of the local Lions Club. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Jack.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce; 3 sons, Doug (Tena) Park of Eaton Rapids, Dennis Park of Atlanta, GA, and Dr. David (Dr. Marilyn) Park of Ukiah, CA; 4 grandchildren, Trisha, Paul, Elizabeth and Justin; 2 sisters, Dorothy Rennels of Plymouth and Peggy Roberts of Valparaiso, IN; several nieces and nephews, including special friend and nephew, John Rennels. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 1, 1 p.m., at the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Sexson. .1 LETTS, RICHARD DOUGLAS "Dick" Lansing You, the Community that he loved, gave him his flowers while he could smell them and his honors 1 while he could see them. In return, he showed us how to live and some of us how to prepare to die.

Richard was born April 15, 1922, in Lansing to Gertrude and William Lett. He was the youngest of four children, Fay Lett (Rositta), John (Agatha) and Naoma Letts Reed. He died Wednesday, October 29, 1997, at the age of 75. Richard was a graduate or Lansing Central High School and West Virginia State College. He also attended Wil-berforce University and Michigan State University.

Mr. Letts retired as Director of Human Relations and Equal Opportunity Officer for the City of Lansing where he was employed for 44 years. From 1949 to 1965, he was the Recreation Director at Lincoln Community Center in Lansing. During most of that time, he also workedat the Olds factory and the Post Office. He worked on several reunions of the former participants of Lincoln Center and West Junior High School and was so pleased to see and hear of the progress of the young people.

In 1965, Richard was employed by the Lansing Board of Education as Community School Coordinator to work with the first "Head Start" program here. In 1993, two days after nis retirement, Governor John Engler appointed him as a member of the Civil Rights Commission of Michigan. Dick Letts was a member of over 50 Boards and organiztions. He was past President of the National Association of Human Rights Workers, the Lions Host Club, Downtown Coaches, and Executive Secretary of Old Newsboys until his death. Mr.

Letts was active with the Okemos Council of Boy Scouts, the Lansing United Negro College Fund, Crime Stoppers, Thomas L. Washington chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Women's Resource Center, to name a few. He helped organize the Capitol City Golfers and was their President for fifty years. He was a Golden Heritage member of the NAACP, a Prince Hall Mason and Shriner, the Alpha Chi Boule and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He was a member of Trinity A.M.E.

Church. Mr. Letts has received many honors and was grateful for each one. Surviving are his wife, Olivia; daughter, Eileen Letts Christmas (Robert); and two grandsons, Robert, Jr. and Matthew.

He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Friends may visit Mr. Letts Saturday, November 1, 1997, 9 a.m. 9 p.m., and Sunday, November 2, 9 a.m. 4 p.m.

at the Riley Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 2, 6-7 f.m., at Trinity African Methodist piscopal Church, 3500 W. Holmes Road. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 3, 11 a.m., at the Church with Pastor Walter W. Reid, Sr.

W7 BARNETT, ADAM Springport, Ml Age 80, died Tuesday, October 28, 1997 at home where he had lived for the past 23 years. He was born April 5, 1917 in Magoffin County, Kentucky to Frank and Bertha (Perkins) Barnett. He had worked at Gale Manufacturing and Malleable Iron and Warren-Scherer from where he retired in 1978 after 30 years of service.

He also enjoyed farming the family farm during those years. He attended Faith Assembly of God, Olivet, MI. He was married to Ollie (Cole) Barnett on February 4, 1937 in Grassy Creek, KY. They moved to Michigan shortly after their marriage and have fived in the Olivet-Springport area for the past 60 years. She survives.

Also surviving are 2 sons, Don (Janice) Barnett of Bellevue and Barry (Carol) Barnett of Battle Creek; 3 daughters, Faye Louise (Lowell) Greene of Grand Rapids, Judy (Lester) Robinson and Cindy (Dale) Waun, both of Olivet; 18 grandchildren and 29 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Virginia Bartlett and Anna Williams; and 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 31, 1997 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Pastor Tom McLane, Todd McLane and Winford Collins officiating. Interment in the Rice Creek Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Hospice or the Faith Assembly of God. PUTNIS, EDUARDS Lansing Born August 20, 1935, in Latvija, died October 29, 1997, at the age of 62. Mr. Putnis had been employed with General Motors Corporation for 29 years. Surviving are his wife, Ruta; 2 sons, Eriks V.

and Roberts E. both of Lansing; his mother, Elvira, and 1 sister, Marija (Alexanders) Pastars, both of Comstock Park; 1 niece, Daina (Peter) Luczyk of Kent City; and 1 nephew, Richard (Sharon) Pastars of Grand Rapids. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 3, 2 p.m., at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River East Lansing, with the Rev.

Putnis. LOWELL, EDWIN B. Lansing Age 88, passed away on October 28, 1997. He was born on March 9, 1909 to Richard G. and Lorena K.

Lowell in Rhinelander, WI. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was an award-winning photographer and teacher. Surviving are his wife, Ruth; son, Jonathan C. (Judith Rose) Lowell of Bloomfield Hills; daughter, Honora K.

(Ralph) Bird of Lansing; 2 sisters, Mary (Tony) Diaz, Katherine (Paul) Robb, all of Indianapolis; brother, S. Paul Clay of Chicago; and 4 grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episco- Eal Church. There will be no funeral ome visitation.
