Big Ten's Grid Injury List Grows By United Press International Tfc turf of Metropolitan Stadium today for the last two games of the World Series with the pesky Dodgers. Metropolitan Stadium is the only place in the Series the Twins have looked like the American League champions they are. At Dodger Stadium they were a bumbling, fumbling crew, dropping three straight to Los Angeles and falling behind three games to two.

Monday's 7-0 defeat by Sandy Koufax put them behind in the Series for the first time. Ten Twins fanned and only one of their four hits was struck with any authority. That was the last one by pinch hitter Sandy Val- State. Both players were injured in U-M's season opener against North Carolina Sept. 18.

Detwiler has played off and on, but the knee has not mended. Dehlin has been out of action since suffering the injury. Coach Bump Elliott said Monday defensive back Rick Sygar will take up Detwiler's duties on offense, and Mike Bass will assume Sygar's spot. Ken Wright has been filling in for Dehlin. Detwiler was a mainstay of expect to face one of the strongest ground attacks in the conference.

"I don't like to use the word but for want of a better one," Spartan coach "Duffy Daugherty said Tuesday while talking about Ohio State's attack, "that's just what Woody's attack is awesome." "This is no four yards and a cloud of dust Ohio team," Duffy continued, "It's 12 yards and a cloud of dust. The Buckeyes passed about 35 times against North Carolina, and lost. That was Woody's 'alumni They mixed it up against Washington and won. And then last week against Illinois they went back to being 8 typical Ohio State team and threw only 11 times." Key to the Ohio State attack is Tom Barrington, who has finally settled in the fullback spot after playing all four backfield positions for Woody in three years at Ohio State. Hayes has had some great fullbacks at the Ohio school during his reign, but Barring-ton's performance agaist the Illini may have been the best single performance by any Buckeye fullback.

This is the first time he has been completely healthy early in the week. Buddy Owens, senior defensive tackle from Texas, did not play against Michigan but is at full speed again. Owens pulled a leg muscle last week and was ready to play if needed. Senior Don Weatherspoon from Cassopolis filled in for Owens against the Wolverines.

C7 After Operation had accomplished something." Subsequently, the Dodgers assigned Wills to their Spokane Farm in the Pacific Coast League and that's the place he began blossoming under manager Bobby Bragan, the man to whom he owes all his success, he claims. "At one time I decided I'd never make the major leagues," he confesses. "In my own mind I must have quit 100 times. Then I decided I'd be the best ballplayer in the minors. "Bobby wouldn't let me think of myself as a minor leaguer," Wills recalls.

"He gave me the incentive to get back to the majors. He urged me on all the time and I stole 25 bases in 48 games with Spokane." On June 4 of 1959, there was a call from the Dodgers and Wills joined them in Milwaukee. Before the year was out, he helped them win the pennant and starred in the World Series against the White Sox. The 33-year-old Wills equaled a Series record Monday by rapping out four hits, including a pair of doubles, but he wasn't especially elated. But alas, as they always tell you five minutes after you've missed catching your plane at the air terminal, now it's too late.

Wills has collected 10 hits so far in the World Series and owns a cool .455 average. His average on the base paths against the Twins is even better. There is no rancor in his tone as he talks about how the Tigers had him at their Lakeland, spring training base in 1959 and handed him back to the Dodgers. At the time, the Dodgers were three-deep at shortstop with veteran Pee Wee Reese, Don Zimmer and Bob Lillis, so they could afford to be magnanimous. They sent Wills over to the Tigers.

"As I understand it," explains Wills, "it was one of those 10-and-25 deals." By that, Wills meant the Tigers paid the Dodgers $10,000 merely for the privilege of looking at him and if they decided to keep him it would cost them $15,000 more. "I played mostly games although I did some pinch running in a few games," says Wills. "Billy Hitchcock worked with me a lot and I had a good spring. I thought they were going to keep me. "As I remember it, the Tigers' ownership was undergoing a change or something at tha time.

Jim Campbell was running things and Bill Norman was the manager. "Like I said, I did well and I felt I was going to stay with Detroit. But Campbell called me in two days or a day before camp broke, I forget exactly what day it was, and he said they decided against keeping me. He told me they were sending me back to the Dodgers." Typically, Wills found some consolation at the time. "I didn't feel too badly when they sent me back," he says.
