1 THE STATE JOURNAL Monday, Aug. 19, 1957 Lansing, Michigan TRAVEL JOTS Localites Packed for Tours By ANN DAWSON MILLER (Journal Society Writer)- Looking forward to end-ofthe-summer vacations tour of Europe, Central America for further study, and school in England these trips have Lansingites anxiously eyeing the months of August and September on their calendars. News from the Drew clan (the William Drews on Upton East Lansing, that is) is all of the travel variety. Prof. and Mrs.

Drew have postponed their trip to Central America for few days, for they were anxiously awaiting the return of their daughter and son-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Redman- she's the former Cynthia Drew have been on European honeymoon trip all summer, and returned to Lansing last Thursday. The Drews will drive west, leaving the first of the week, and spend some time in Palo Alto, where Prof.

Drew will present a paper at Stanford university to the American Institute of Biological Scientists. They will meet their other daughter, Kitty, out in San Francisco. Kitty has been a counselor at Chippewa Ranch all summer-and will fly out to meet her parents at the close of camp. From the west coast, the Drews will drive to Mexico City, leave their car, and fly to Central America. They'll travel for three months through Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, dor, Costa Rica and Panama where Prof.

Drew will do research on the latest tropical fruit cultures for his economic botany classes. Another local gal, Miss Catherine Campbell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Campbell, 2000 Hyland sailed from Montreal on Tuesday for Liverpool on the "Empress of England." Catherine, a graduate of the University of Michigan in dramatics, will attend a school of dramatics as an apprentice with the Children's Theater in Bradford, England. She'll stay year, and do extensive traveling on the continent while she's abroad.

One trip, a must, is Scotland and another trip planned is to Vienna, to meet Ann Arbor schoolmates who are in Austria doing advanced study. Her parents just recently returned from Jamestown, where they attended the Jamestown Festival, and also did Williamsburg on the way home. They returned by way of Indianapolis to visit another daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Buhrow and their young daughter, Susan.

patio picnic was held recently at the home of Claude Pope, 1001 N. VerLinden in honor of Mr. and Mrs. James Tyler who are sailing for their home in London, England, the end of this month. They will leave Lansing Aug.

23 for New York city, where they will board the "Queen Elizabeth." The Tylers are here visiting as guests of Gilbert Tyler, 1413 N. Jenison and they arrived in this country May 28. During their stay in this country, the Tylers visited many points of interest including Greenfield Village in Dearborn and West Point in New York. While on the island of Manhattan, they took many sightseeing tours, visited Radio City and saw the Rockettes. They were delighted with the show boat programs, but were mostly impressed with the skyscrapers and lights of the big city.

Another thing that amazed the British visitors were the huge super markets, and the abundance of food and other commodities. All set to leave Lansing on Aug. 30 is the fabulous "Alan Norman tour" with 11 local persons practically packed and ready to go. Lansingites, who are flying Air France to Paris with the local D. are Miss Josephine Boichot and her aunt, Mrs.

Gladys Boichot, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Glassbrook, Miss Rita Starr, Mrs. Madeline Zick, Mrs. Marjorie Shilson, Mrs.

Doris Bennett, Miss Marguerite and Mrs. Edna Galligan of Laingsburg. The tour will leave Paris by motor coach for Lucerne, Switzerland, where they will stay at the Carlton Tivoli hotel. Sights in Switzerland will include the Brienz lake of Brienz, Interlaken, Trummelback falls and a trip through the Bruenig pass. They'll fly to fabulous Rome and stay at the Savoy -visiting the art collections, the Sistine chapel, the Old Roman Forum, the Colosseum, the Appian Way, through the Catacombs all this with plenty of time left free for shopping.

In Munich, they'll spend three days at the Mark hotel and see the Lowenbraueri (a brewery), Nymphenburg castie, Linderhof castle and Berchte sgarden, plus Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a beautiful ski resort. In Salsburg, Austria, the group will dine at the Winkler famous restaurant with an entrance built in the side of a mountain. To get to the actual building, a fast elevator whisks guests straight to the top of the mountain, and diners. look out over breathtaking view of the moutains and forests. From Munich and the BavarIan Alps, the travelers will fly to London and a three day stay at the Charing Cross hotel.

Side trips will include St. Paul's, the Tower and London bridge, Westminster Abbey, a drive via Whitehall to Downing Albert hall, Buckingham palace (where Christopher Robin went down with Alice) and Trafalgar square. Then on to Gay Paree, the Champs Elysses, Eiffel tower, the Arc de Triomphe, Sacre Coeur, Place de l'Opera, the Tuileries Gardens, the Louvre and Notre Dame, with day for shopping. They'll return home on a direct flight via Air France. MRS.

ROBERT GARY JEWETT Beverly Joan Young, Charlotte, Is Bride of Robert G. Jewett Robert Gary Jewett, 1 M. S. U. senior who plays end on the Spartan football team, was married Sunday afternoon to Beverly Joan Young of Charlotte, former M.

S. U. co-ed. Mr. Jewett is the son of Mr.

and Mrs. Wilfrid L. Jewett of Mason and his bride's parents are Mr. and Mrs. William J.

Young of Charlotte. For the ceremony, performed in the First Congregational church of Charlotte, Beverly donned a classic floor length gown of antique tissue silk, fashioned with short sleeves and a sweep train. Attending her were Miss Muriel McLauchlin of Sturgis as maid of honor and Miss Carolyn sCosgrove of Fremont, Miss Jewett of Mason, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Jo Ann Woodward, the bride's cousin, as bridesmaids. Miss Pamela Young, the bride's sister, and Miss Phyllis Jewett, the bridegrooms's sister serves as junior bridesmaids. All wore identical gowns of white scrolled lace over cotillion blue taffeta.

Small matching tiaras held short veils scattered with seed pearls and they carried cascading arrangements of blue and white glamelias. Little Linda Young, another sister of the bride, was flower girl in a cotillion blue taffeta dress. She carried an. Italian basket filled with white flowers. Alan Priest, the bride's young cousin, ring bearer.

John Davis of Mason was best man. were Doug Weist of Detroit, Clarence Randall of Mason, Everett Bennett of Ferndale, and Dick Young, brother of the bride. Philip and Roger Jewett, his own younger brothers, were junior ushers. A reception in the church parlors followed the ceremony. After a northern honeymoon the pair will reside in Charlotte while the bridegroom completes his senior year at M.
