Page edited by Randy Bergen call 836-1 199 after 5 p.m. Southeast Missouri State observes 125th anniversary The Associated Press CAPE GIRARDEAU Southeast Missouri State University will celebrate its 125th anniversary throughout "April with a wide variety of eyeffts. -T'tPur goal initially for the 125th anniversary celebration was to recognize and honor the people who have gone before to help create this university," said Jim Biundo, head of the anniversary committee. "At the same time, we wanted to showcase the many fine things which are happening now and which are leading the institution into the future." On Monday, the River Heritage Quilters Guild will present a special handmade quilt to the university. The 95-inch-by-125-inch quilt was made by the nearly 100 members of the guild.

It took about a year to complete. The centerpiece of the quilt depicts Academic Hall, and each of the perimeter blocks represent other campus buildings, past and present. An exhibition honoring the role of women in Southeast's history will be on display in the University Center throughout April. Illusionist David Copperfield will perform two shows April 7 at the Show Me Center. Among other highlights: A Lyceum at 8 p.m.

April 10 at Academic Hall. Lyceums consist of lectures, dramatic interpretations, singing, dancing and instrumental music. Visits by officials from colleges and universities from Japan, Nigeria, Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, United Kingdom, Wales and France the week of April 11-17. Visiting officials will represent the 12 institutions with whom Southeast has exchange programs. I The annual International Festival-International Carnival on April 11 in the University Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James G. Harris. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Benjamin Louis Miller MILLER Benjamin Louis Miller, 67, Miller, died at 3:24 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 1999, in his home of an apparent heart attack.

Mr. Miller was born Dec. 5, 1931, in Miller. He had lived most of his life in the Miller area. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War where he was a Ranger and Bridge Engineer.

He also spent eight years in the Reserves. He completed two years of college courses in SMS. He was a Class A tool and dye maker and worked for Boeing Aircraft on the X-15 Project. He also owned and operated Miller and Sons Insulation and Guttering in Miller. He was a member of Benjamin-Elliott-Stockton Post 120, Miller.

He married Nelda Sanders on Feb. 4, 1950, in Harrison, and she survives. Other survivors include three sons and their wives, Larry and Peggy Miller, Nixa, Steve and Kay Miller, Springfield, and Mike and Cheryl Miller, Miller; a daughter and her husband, Sandra and Denny Parnell, Halltown; a sister, Marilyn Dim-mitt, San Jose, 13 grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jim, on April 10, 1976. The body has been cremated under direction of Morris-Leiman-Mosher Funeral Home, Miller.

He was an active member of King's Way United Methodist Church, and was a past member of the Board of Directors of Cox Medical Centers and the Board of Regents of Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, Okla. He had also been active in a number of business and professional organizations and associations related to the automotive industry. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Wise, on Jan. 5, 1981.

He is survived by three sons and their wives, Robert C. and Betsy Wise, Jay D. and Jan Wise, and Dan R. and Sally Wise, and eight grandchildren, Leah Jill Justin Emily Allison Wesley Megan and Adam D. Wise, all of Springfield, Mo.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday. April 2, 1999, in King's Way United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles E. Buck officiating under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel.

There will be a brief reception in Atkins Charter House in the church following the services. Private family burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today in the funeral home. The casket will be closed at all times due to personal request.

Findley, 72, Branson, the son of George and Myrtle Shores Findley, was born April 26, 1926, in Monroe, and departed this life March 30, 1999, in St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, Mo. Bob was united in marriage to Birdella Burke on Nov. 1, 1947, and to this union five children were bom. He was a retired data technician working for 15 years in Boeing Aircraft Company, and 20 years in McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company.

Bob had been a resident of the Branson area for the past 10 years coming from St. Charles, Mo. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Kimberling City, the Masonic Lodge, and was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife, Birdella Findley; a son, Paul Findley and his wife, Danita; four daughters, Roberta Moore and her husband, Jim, Dianne Findley, Marilyn DeLapp and her husband, Gary, and Mary Layton; 10 grandchildren, Lois Birdella, Elizabeth R.

and Sarah G. Moore, Embret Robert L. and Laura K. Knoshaug, Melissa J. and Amber E.

Layton, and Aaron B. and Emily D. Roy Reding WALNUT SHADE Roy Reding, 94, Walnut Shade, died at 1:30 a.m. Monday, March 29, 1999, in his home. He was bom Oct. 1, 1904, in Aubrey, Texas, the son of Caleb Julian and Marion Cox Reding. Roy had been a resident of the Branson area for the past 50 years, where he and his wife were the owners of Reding Novelty and Antiques Company.
