So the No. 5 Aggies beating the Missouri Tigers 26-13 was to be expected. What wasn't so predictable was the way the Tigers' play.

Missouri (0-2) also appeared to be young, quick and aggressive team, at least in the first half. At one point the Tigers led 10-0, but the Aggies roared out for the second half and scored 23 points. Jacke kicked a 21-yard field goal for Missouri in the third quarter, but missed a 35-yard kick early in the fourth quarter that would have brought Missouri to within 1.

"We just made too many mistakes," Stull said. "Once we missed the field goal, they jammed it down ourvthroat." Tigers hurtln': Injuries also became a problem for the Tigers. By Lyndal Scranton The News-Leader The cheers rang long and loud late Saturday night as the Southwest Missouri State Bears held their post-game meeting. The players even broke into a rough chorus about the (de)merits of Texas. "The coaches said all week long that we weren't into the revenge factor," SMS linebacker Bill Du-lin said. "But I think deep down, it was there. We wanted to show North Texas that we were the better football team." With the defense and special teams dominating the first half and the offense purring with fourth-quarter efficiency, the Bears whipped North Texas 35-10 Saturday night before 12,475 fans at Plaster Sports Complex.

While last year's 21-21 tie between the teams in Denton, Texas, will never be erased an outcome that left the Bears fit to be tied after blowing a 21-3 lead Saturday's game was sweet. It "was the direct reverse of that game, when we didn't get anything done in the fourth quarter," SMS coach Jesse Branch said. "Just say we had plenty of motivation," said Dulin, who earned a game ball with an interception that set up a first-half touchdown and made eight tackles. Some bad news: All the news wasn't jovial, however. SMS' star junior cornerback, Adrion Smith, is out for at least a month with a broken left collarbone.

Gregory ChittendenThe News-Leader SMS' Adrion Smith goes for a blocked punt. Shumone Burnett recovered and the Bears soon scored. The Associated Press HOUSTON The Kansas City Chiefs' offense still is new to quarterback Dave Krieg. The defense he will face today is familiar. Krieg, 2-0 in his first two games with the Chiefs, recited the names of key players in the Houston Oilers defense: William Fuller, Cris Dish-man, Ray Childress, Doug Smith.

Miss anyone? "You talk about a quality defense. I've just named some guys that any team would be glad to have," Krieg said. "Then there's (Johnny) Meads, Lamar (Lathon) and Bubba (McDoVell) has been playing all pro defense and of course there's Jerry Gray." Krieg knows his compliments won't get him any slack in the Astrodome. But it was a nice try. "Yes, I think so," Krieg said when asked if the Oilers defense was intimidating.

"That's what they try to do. They're very capable of stopping your running game to make you pass. And once they get you, they want to do it again so they can get all their names in there for sacks." Coach Marty Schottenheimer is a big Krieg fan: "He gives us an ability to throw the drop back game more than in the past," Schottenheimer said.
