The extra point gave the Panthers their first lead. After a Catholic punt, Prichard carried the ball five times for 45 yards and scored on a 4-yard run with 6:56 remaining. Prichard finished with 150 yards on 24 carries. "Catholic has a tough defense," Prichard said. "We pretty much stuck to our plan, but I just got some great blocks tonight." Catholic still had a chance as quarterback Scott Conroy led the team down the field, highlighted by a 14-yard run on a busted play on third down.

Two plays later, however, Conroy was intercepted by Brandon Rogers on the Panthers 5, putting an end to the home crowd's hopes. "Mountain Grove did not dominate us, but they still beat us," Cornelison said. "Tonight was a matter of us making too many errors not taking advantage of theirs." Mountain Grove plays host to Willard next Friday night while Catholic will play at North Platte. Stockton 45, Sarcoxie 0 Strafford 34, Diamond 6 Versailles 13, Blair Oaks 7 West Nodaway 56, Fairfax 26 West Platte 29, Lawson 21 For three quarters it looked like Bobby Cornelison was going to get a victory in his coaching debut Friday night. Twelve minutes and a few mistakes later, that wasn't the case.

Catholic dropped a hard-luck 13-6 decision to Mountain Grove at Swisshelm Field in the season opener for both teams. The victory was a bit of revenge for the Panthers, who lost a year ago to Catholic by one point. A pair of Catholic turnovers in Panthers' territory and a great second half by Mountain Grove running back Ryan Prichard put 13 points on the board after Catholic led 6-0 at the end of three quarters. "We controlled the game in the second half," Panthers coach Kyle Roach said. "I can't quiteexplain how biga win this is for us.

To beat Catholic at home in the first game of the season is quite a thrill for all of us." After a sluggish first half and a slow start in the third quarter, Mountain Grove finally got things rolling as quarterback Brandon Rogers hit wide receiver Jeremy Sciba on a 36-yard completion down to the Catholic 12-yard line. Striking fast, Kickapoo's Matt Delozier returned a punt 66 yards but the conversion kick failed. The Chiefs ended the half with a 6-0 lead.

After commiting four key penalties in the first half and not recovering two fumbles, Kickapoo woke up after halftime when Michael Fields scored twice, once on a 4-yard carry and again on a 5-yard run. Joel Whitten scored in the third quarter from 15 yards out to make it 27-0. Bill Robinson blocked a Waynesville punt in the end zone for a safety and then the Tigers' Brian Vernon connected on a 10-yard pass to Scott Tafoya for the final score of 29-6. Fields led Kickapoo with 111 yards and two touchdowns, and Brad Dillinger had 93 yards. Ryan Helming completed five passes for 61 yards and threw no interceptions.

After Rolla returned the opening kick-off for a touchdown. Parkview's Brian Miller broke free and went 67 yards to tie the game. Rolla overpowed Parkview on defence by only holding the Vikings to two first downs and eight yards in the air.

Parkview lost the ball three times due to turnovers and could never answer Rolla's overpowering offense and control of the line of scrimmage. "We controlled the line of scrimmage well," said Rolla coach Gary Miles. The lineman gave Rolla quarterback Travis Miles just enough time to connect on a 32-yard scoring pass to Tony Aurthur in the third quarter. Miles totaled 78 yards passing. Parkview wil travel to Camdenton and Rolla plays host to Lebanon next Friday.
