Sitcom blended 'Candid 'Friends' styles "Witt I Receive Mof the (Benefits ofOalqwtf's LifeCare Community If I Choose an Option Man? Tit (ait jui Question: I seem to recall a short-lived sitcom (alas, arent most?) that aired in the early 1990s about a group of friends who were writers for a "Candid television show. The only episode I remember clearly involved a stunt they cooked up with an ATM machine that would talk back to customers. Does this sound familiar? Answer Familiar, yes. Funny, no. Methinks the show is "Going Places," which ran on ABC in 1990-91 and was a fine, fine slamming together of "Candid Camera," "Friends," "America's Funniest Home Videos," "The Jerry Springer Show" and Heather Locklear.

At first, it was a sitcom about four friends and housemates (Alan Ruck, Locklear, Hallie Todd and Jerry Levine) who wrote for a "Candid show. Their imperious boss was Dawn St Clare, played by Holland Taylor. Then, in midseason, the friends became bookers for a talk show hosted by Dick Roberts (Steve Vinovich). Then in the spring, they went away. Several years ago, I saw a movie that was made for TV.

It was about a man who was raped and had to go through the same ordeal as a woman does. What was the name of the movie? That's the 1985 TV movie "The Rape of Richard Beck," with Richard Crenna and Meredith Baxter. Crenna won an Emmy for his role. It's on video. Could you please tell me if the man who played Jack's best man in the flashback scenes on the April 6 episode of "Lost" is the same person who played Scut Farkus in "A Christmas Dam that Farkus! Same guy, named Zack Ward.

Several weeks ago on "Third Watch," the character Ty was trying to find his father's old undercover squad to learn how his father really died. One of the actors who played a member of the squad looked like an actor that was in a late 1970s movie called "The Warriors" about a street gang. Is this possible? Also, did the actor who plays the lieutenant on "Cold Case" also play a young priest in the 1963 movie "Lilies of the You're 1 for 2. David Patrick Kelly appeared in "The Warriors" and on that episode of "Third Watch," which originally aired in January and was rerun recently. But John Finn, who plays Lt Stillman on CBS' "Cold Case," was not in "Lilies of the Fields." In fact, when that movie came out, he was 12.

Do you happen to know if the actor who played Martin Crane on "Frasier" is the same actor who played Dwayne Hickman's father on the old "Dobie Gillis" series in the early 1960s? I know that sometimes it's hard to believe, but the 1960s ended 35 years ago. To people like us, it seems like only yesterday, but we are codgers. Frank Faylen, who played Herbert T. Gillis on The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" on CBS from 1959 until 1963, died in 1985 at age 80. By comparison, John Mahoney, who played Martin on "Frasier," was the age of one of Dobie's sidekicks in 1959.

He was born in 1940. Is Amy Brenneman of "Judging Amy" pregnant? I've noticed that over the last few weeks she has been wearing a lot of loose-fitting clothes. So she cant just be a slob? Yes, she's pregnant Her baby is due this month. Write David toman's In care of The (Louisville, Ky.) Courier-Journal, 525 W. Broadway, R0.
