With a little planning, especially on third down, the coach should be able to stop the clock at the end of the down and allow him to put in his defensive unit to do the punting and be in the game when the opposition gets the ball. "Sometimes we might have 'to buy our other unit into the game," Duffy commented about the new rule. "If we miss a first down on a third-down situation and are forced to punt and if the clock is going so that we can't put in our defensive unit we can have an offside penalty called against us before we punt This will stop the clock and then we can put in 11 new players.

The five yards we lose from the penalty won't make much difference in a punting situation, but being caught with the offensive unit on defense could make a difference in the game even if it is for one play." The top four rushers last year (Roger Lopes, Sherm Lewis, Dewey Lincoln and Ron Rubick) all graduated. Harry Ammon, who returns, was fifth with 123 yards in 25 carries for a 5.0 average. Lopes led the the team with 01 yards and a 4.3 average. Sherm had 577 yards and a 6.4 average in 90 carries.

With newcomers in all three running positions, it's doubtful if they can come up with the same yardage as last year's crew. v. Another reason Duffy is thinking along the air lanes more is his sophomore group. The top first-year players are ends and all are fine receivers. Soph ends who showed well in the-spring are Gene Washington, and John Kettunen.

Washington is from La Porte, Texas, and Kettunen from Eastlake, Ohio. Two others who are sure to be in the pass plans ara senior Tom Krzemienski from Beaver Falls, and sophomore George Webster from Anderson, S.C. Webster missed the spring workouts because of a knee injury but was highly rated with the frosh unit last fall. 1 Krzemienski hauled in nine passes last year for 117 yards and one touchdown. He was second on the squad behind Lewis who caught 11 for 303 yards and five touchdowns.

Juday is expected to do most of the throwing. He was the Big Ten leader in throwing touchdown passes (five) when he was injured in the Wisconsin game a year ago. He completed 30 of 68 for 509 yards before being sidelined for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. It looks like it adds up to more passing. -played Wont game.
