The zoo addition is to be built in a scenic area that is a 10-minute tram ride away frbm the current site. $12.75 million fund-raising drive is not to begin officially until spring. Tuesday's donation is being called an advance gift- we go to the public next year, that $1 million is going to be a nice starting point," Geise said.

announcement of the donation was repeated at a dinner Tuesday night for potential donors. Art Learmonth, president of the Binder Park Zoological Society, said he expects other Kalamazoo area organizations to offer support for the project. "We're a regional facility, so it makes sense that we should do as much of the fund-raising as we can on a regional basis," he said. The Kellogg Foundation's $2.5 million donation to The New Museum campaign brings fund-raising efforts within about $1 juries are hearing their trials. Nevers' jury was dismissed and Nevers left the court during Budzyn's testimony.

Prosecution witnesses testified earlier that Budzyn leaped into Green's car and struck him in the hands while demanding that he open his clenched fist One witness said Budzyn held Green in a headlock and struck him near the head. Budzyn said Tuesday that he never struck Green in the hands or head, had dropped his flashlight at the start of the struggle and only spoke to Green to order him to stop kicking. According to his account, he and Nevers stopped behind Green's parked car because it had bullet holes. After asking for Green's license, Budzyn said Green reached for the glove compartment with a clenched right hand and a struggle ensued. By the time he got out of the car, Budzyn said, Green was hanging halfway out of the car bleeding.

Budzyn said he didn't remember seeing blood spatter the inside of the car, or know how Green was struck 14 times. DETROIT Former police officer Walter Budzyn says he never hit a motorist who was beaten to death with metal flashlights, and never saw his partner strike the victim after a struggle in a parked car. But Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy told Budzyn during cross-examination Tuesday that she didn't believe his story about Malice Green's Nov. 5 death. "You didn't see a 5-foot-10, 145-pound man being killed in the same car you were in?" Worthy asked Budzyn, whose testimony marked the first time he spoke publicly about the death.

"You didn't turn around and see someone being killed right behind you?" "I didn't know he was being killed. I didn't see. He was behind me," Budzyn answered. Testimony resumes today with a witness who said police tried to get him to change his statement about Green's death. An autopsy showed Green, 35, an unemployed steelworker, died of at least '14 blows to the skufl.

Budzyn and his partner, Larry Nevers, are charged with second-degree murder. Separate Detroit Recorder's Court way they're planning it with hands-on exhibits, is going to be a tremendous regional resource," Mawby said. "I think as you get more of these resources, you get an area that is more of an attraction." million of its $20 million goal, Kellogg Foundation Chairman Russell Mawby said. The museum is expected to open in 1995. "We think The New Museum, with the Obituaries Services: 10 a.m.
