Tuesday, December 28, 1982 Iowa City Press-Citizen 5D Volunteers Tennessee assistant remembers the days when he coached at Iowa those same duties with the Volunteers. "When I was at Iowa, Frank Lauterbur didn't really have the chance to change the attitude of the players there to winning," he said. "That magic formula wasn't there. "And there weren't enough good players when a few got injured. Injuries just wiped us out." Harrison, 42, said he has been impressed with Iowa's success' under coach Hayden Fry.

Fry has guided the Hawkeyes to two straight winning seasons, the first time that has happened at Iowa in 21 years. "I have noted how he's done a tremendous job in recruiting and changing the attitude of fans as well as players," Harrison said. "No, I never expected to be seeing Iowa in a bowl game for a while, but I have kept up on their program and will have mixed emo- By The Associated Press Iowa's Peach Bowl battle against Tennnessee on Dec. 31 will be a trip down memory lane for Bob Harrison. Harrison, an assistant coach at Tennessee, spent three seasons at Iowa in the early 1970s.

That was a difficult period for Iowa football, but Harrison says he enjoyed his stint with the Hawkeyes. 'When Iowa runs out on the field, I'll' have a lot of instant flashbacks," Harrison said. "I have nothing but positive thoughts about my three years at Iowa. I've made a lot of lifelong friends there." Harrison coached at Iowa under Frank Lauterbur from 1971-73, leaving after Lauterbur was fired following the 1973 season. He later joined the staff of Lou Holtz at North Carolina State, then became an assistant at Tennnesee in 1977.

At Iowa, Harrison worked with the Hawkeye receivers. He handles tions when we face them. At Tennessee, Harrison is in charge of an area that many believe to be the Volunteers' strength. He has a fleet corps of receivers headed by Olympic sprinter Willie Gault, who caught 50 passes for 668 yards. Other speedsters in Harrison's group include Mike Miller (24 catches) and Darryal Wilson (23 catches).

Despite that speed and the play of quarterback Alan Cockrell, who passed for 2,021 yards, Harrison said the Volunteers have been inconsistent on offense. "Would you believe with the speed we had that we scored our decisive touchdown aganst Alabama all on the ground?" he said. "I know I never would have believed it. "We have had great games and some poor games. We've got some young players who aren't always consistent.

But we have a good group to work with and they seem to play better with their backs to the wall." Harrison said he still visits regularly with Lauterbur, who now is an assistant with the Seattle Sea-hawks, and keeps in touch with other Iowa assistants from that era. Elroy Moran and Ducky Lewis are now high school coaches, NO. Name Pos. Ht. Wt.
