The- declines in most other stocks were 1 fr2 1 per cent.

There waa less pressure to sell Atchison and the atoek closed above Monday. The market after so sharp a fall should have a rally. There was buying of St. Paul just at the close up to President Porter of the Chicago and East Illinois, who is here, compared Wall street to-day to a "lunatic psylum, being as wrong In selling stocks as it was three yeais ago In buying them." Bonds were more active and feverish. Fort Worths, Pacifies, 87; seconds, 22; Missouri, Kansas and Texas 4s, SO; seconds, Cl.

Bar silver easier at Brown cut the CO-day counter rate to less commission on the 1 per. cent rate for at London, but no other bankar followed the cut. Double sixties were held at less 1-1G; short, net; cables, less cotton documents, acceptances, W.S? 1 Supply and demand were both light. Some bankers were only selling cables. No further cotton bills of moment are looked for this week.

The Canadian bank offered any part of sixties at the close at net. Colonel Fielding remarked that cotton did not appear to have many friends. Liverpool certainly did not want either spots or arrivals and both declined, chiefly en dull Manchester and the Turkish situation, although a cable to the Canadian bank reported the situation better than yesterday. The bulls fell back on the continued small receipts and Latham's very moderate crop conclusions, or rather the conclusions of his, correspondents; but the small receipts are getting to be an old story and the disposition is to go slow and see what the future will develop. Early In the day the market fell to 8.G5c, January basis, but it rallied to 8.73c, with another fall to S.5Sc and final sale at 8.61c.

The closing selling was partly on discounting another expected bad Liverpool in the mornlug. Ranger declared cotton was cheap. Latham, Alexander Co. have advices from 2C32 correspondents in the south, which combined made an estimate of 6,435,000 boles as the cotton crop of 1894-95, and the weight of bales 10 to 12 pounds lighter. Of the above correspondents 2418 figured the crop at 6,080,000 bales; 474 Texas correspondents averaged the crop of that state at 1,802,000.

In some parts of Texas the crop wac declared a "failure and abandoned." The earnings of the Texas and Pacific for the fourth week in October decreased S84.000, the Katy Fort Worth and Rio Grande J9452, International SGO.OOO. The Missouri Pacific increased $49,000. The Southern Pacific in September has a net decrease of $358.000. H. P.

Hall o( Galveston and M. P. Graham of Austin are here. THE POST'S LONDON CABLE. New York, Nov.

Evening Post's financial cablegram from London pays: The stock markets here opened better, but closed fiat on the Paris news. Three or four small foihires are expected at the bourse settlement ito-morrow, ajid possibly the larger firms In question may fail. Americans closed firm, but with no business. It is reported in rather a good quarter that of the Japanese money at the Bank of England one-half may be spent in buying silver, but if this Is so the purchases will be so spread as scarcely to affect the market. The remainder of the money Is to be applied to payments coming due In this country before July next.

HUBBARD BROS. CO. New York, Nov. Bros. cotton: letter says: To state that the cotton trade Is dumfounded that the small receipts do n'ot cause an advance in prices is to express the feelings of the merchants in adequate They simply do not know a to nvake of a situation where crop advices- justify an advance which fails to appear.

Whether it Is tlhls- or The threatened partition of Turkey wMeh the withdrawal of the spinners from the Eu- roTTefm markets it is impossible to tell, but the weakness comes from the absence of demand for actual cotton. Specula-Lions seem to be leaving the market alone from visible factors. The market should improve from this depression. The unseen factors alone prevent such o- course.

The semiweekly receipts were reported 57,000 bales, but when posted 75,000 bales 'the market eased under continued outside liquidation, rluslni? barely steady at 2 points above the lowest. At the close u. large a of wuak cotton was absorbed by a prominent spinning broker, but t'he undertone was un- curtain. The market to-day has puzzled everybody in -the trade, when it should feel the effect of the light receipts. VISIBLE GRAIN SUPPLY.
