Fossum owns an identical four-stroke lead in Class with a 73. Mike Fagan is second with 77.

The tourney continues through Thursday, nine holes a day. The fields were broken down into three flights in each class following Tuesday's second round. The closest contest is in Class Second Flight, where seven title hopefuls are within two shots of each other. Joe Cook and Jeff Vogl share the lead at 96. Mike Shaner has 97.

A winner in his last two outings at Hazel Park and Northville Downs, Chief Okemos trailed the leading Arbor Milt by a length through most of the mile. Driver Carl Allen finally gave him his head in the last 100 yards and he pulled away at the finish. A 7-year-old son of Michigan sire Knox Hanover, Chief Okemos has won six of 19 starts this year for owner John R-Sommers of Troy. He paid $13.80, $7.20 and $5.40. Arbor Milt returned $22.40 and $9.40 while third-place Lady Knightmare paid $3.60.
