Many Householders, who were a-ble to do so. boug-ht mineral waters for drinking purposes, preferring to do that than tu risk their lives -with water from unclean cisterns.

These have abandoned the imported mineral waters and are now using the water from the city plant for all purposes. The hotel keepers aay the -water gives -their guests great appetites. The brackish water has all 'left the pipes, with the exception, possibly, of dead ends," from whence no water is used except in cases of emergency. It has been suggested as a feature of the celebration that nil owners of public provide inexpensive drinking fountains at their front doors and supply cups from which the crowds can drink. 'Some gentlemen interested were ulscuss- ins yesterday the Henry Rosenberg bequest to the city for.

fountains. These are to be placed at different points in the city and will be arranged tor" man and beast. It was the sentiment, of the group that such places should be provided in the more traveled streets rhat not only men but horses could drink, -There might be a certain amount of prevention against dogs in the establishment of these drinking fountains. At present there is not 4 drinking place In the city unless it be in. the suburbs or out- of-the-way places.

These matters will all 'be discussed probably by speakers w'ho will deliver addresses on the night of the celebration. There will also 'be music and Mr. David Hall, the city electrician, will put up an electrical display. And, besides this, there will be plenty of Alta Loma water to drink. IN HEARTY ACCORD.

That Is What Culbersoa Wired Judge Mann Yesterday Anent the Exposition. Judge Mann yesterday received a telegram from Governor the effect that he was heartily In accord with the Inter-American exposition movement and with the workings of the Topeka com- mlitet-. The telegram said that he. would at once communicate with the governor Kansas witlr" regard to taking official steps to uH In Its promotion. An effort is being made to get the governor to issue a proclamation, either the one suggested by the Topeka committee or one similar in import.

Nothing Js being done locally by tbe committee on promotion other th'an to second the work being done by the secretary, Tom Rlchardsbn, who is in Kansas and Missouri working up interest-in the preliminary meeting to be held in Topeka un October 1. Several meetings have been held in Topeka, as is well known by those who nave been reading The News, and the leading men of the west have been taking active hold of the preliminary details. Mann said yesterday that the exposition must and will be made a success. LA ROSE IX BAD SHAPE. A Clot of Bloo-il Forms on -the Brain and Causes Paralysis.
