Can Reprisal for Wrecking of Nazi Troop Tram LONDON, Aug. 13 UP D-Jtch. circles sought news today of the fate of 1.000 Dutch hostages held by the Germans for the wrecking of a German troop train near Rotterdam last Friday. Unless the persons responsible are apprehended by midnight Friday', the Germans have announced, hostages will be executed in reprisal.

It was not clear whether tne Germans intended executing just some of the hostages. Ir would be the first recorcec exe cution of hostages in the Netherlands. Thus faf there is no information that the wreckers either have surrendered of their own accord or have been handed over by Dutch police. On the basis of prereeistrations which have been the largest ever received for a Michigan Legion of convention, a total attendance of 10,000 Legionaires and their ladies is expected. A window display contest Thursday night, sponsored by the Kalamazoo American Legion convention corporation, will precede the state meetings. One hundred Kalamazoo merchants are enrolled in the contest and windows will be unveiled at 7 Thursday evening to remain on display throughout the conven tion. Patriotism and the promotion of defense stamps and bond sales are the themes upon which the window displays are to be arranged. Annual business meetings of the Porty-and-Eight society and the Eight-and-Forty society of the Legion and auxiliary will be held Friday afternoon and evening.

State Relief Cases Continuing to Drop Material shortages which reported ly have been causing unemployment in Michigan war production plants have not yet affected the state WPA and direct relief rolls, John D. O'Connell, state welfare director, said Wednesday. O'Connell said both case loads had continued their downward trend, with direct relief dropping from on July 31 to 22,951 on August 7, and WPA dropping from 17,958 to in tne same period.

Lehrbas. himself a former As sociated Press war correspondent now serving as a press relations officer on General MacArthur's staff, was in Port Moresby, Allied base in New Guinea, when the plane disappeared in a storm. He said searching planes had gone out several times over the probable route of the missing plane but found no trace of the aircraft or of its occupants.
