The dates for two Orlando Bowl games were announced Thursday. The Capital One Bowl will be played on Jan. 2, while the Champs Sports Bowl is set for Dec. 29.

Women's basketball: UCLA hired Florida State assistant Cori Close as its new head coach. Close had been a Seminoles' assistant coach for the past seven seasons. Marketing executive Laurel J. Richie was hired to lead the WNBA, becoming the league's third president. She replaces Donna Orender.

Palm Beach Post Wire Reports HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. Garrett Willis couldn't give up on "Old Faithful," no matter how many flashy, new belly putters he tested out this week. Willis entered The Heritage seeking answers to his poor putting and had planned to park his longtime model. As he walked to the range Thursday morning, though, Willis just couldn't go through with it and asked his caddie to "go back to my car and get 'Old Good thing he did. Willis had six straight birdies on the front nine en route to a seven-under 64 and a one-shot lead in the suspended first round of The Heritage.

"I made putts today that I normally don't make," said Willis, who has missed cuts in six of the past eight tournaments he's entered. Willis was a shot in front of Arjun Atwal, Matt Bettencourt, Chad Campbell and Tim Herron. Mark Wilson, Camilo Villegas and 2009 Heritage champion Brian Gay were two strokes back. Luke Donald topped a group at 67, and defending champion Jim Furyk had a 68. Lee Westwood trails leader Siddikur of Bangladesh by two strokes after the first round of the Indonesian Masters in Jakarta.

The 33-pound cup slipped from the hands of Madrid defender Sergio Ramos while atop the team bus during celebrations Thursday morning. Only hours before, the club defeated rival Barcelona in the domestic cup final in Valencia for its first cup since 1993 and its first trophy of any kind in three years. Later, Ramos made light of the miscue on Twitter.

"The whole thing about the cup was a misunderstanding, it didn't fall it jumped off when it reached Cibeles (the fountain in Madrid where the team celebrates its titles) and saw so many Madrid fans," Ramos tweeted. The club said that the trophy will be repaired. "It is not in good shape," Madrid spokeswoman Marta Santisteban told The Associated Press, "evidently, it was run over by a bus." The club said a replica of the trophy has been placed in the club museum until it is repaired. Buster Posey's sister hits for home run cycle Giants catcher and former Florida State Seminoles star Buster Posey isn't the only slugger in the family. His younger sister, Sa-mantha, a third baseman for Valdosta State's softball team, hit for the home run cycle in a doubleheader against Albany State earlier this week a solo home run, a two-run homer, a three-run homer and a grand slam.

Posey, a junior, hit half of the Blazers' eight homers and drove in a total of 11 runs (including an RBI double) as they swept the doubleheader 13-0 and 16-0. She wasn't aware she had achieved the feat. "I did not know that," Posey told the Valdosta Daily Times. "That's pretty cool. I felt really good." By the way, if you're wondering, no big-league ballplayer has ever hit for a home run cycle in a single game, although Cardinals outfielder Mark Whiten came close.

He replaced the solo shot with an additional three-run homer in his four-homer game in 1993. Auburn tree poisoning suspect goes on radio BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Harvey Updyke 62, accused of poisoning the oak trees at Auburn's Toomer's Corner, went on Paul Fine-baum's show, the same outlet he used in January to confess. "I just don't want it to be my legacy," Updyke told Fine-baum. "I don't want to go to my grave saying, 'Harvey the tree poisoner' Updyke appeared in court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing. Shortly after leaving, he told police, he was attacked at a gas station. Police have no witnesses or suspects.

Updyke said he doesn't blame Auburn fans for being mad at him, but ended his appearance on the show the same way he did the first, by declaring "Roll Damn Tide." Glavine has interest in buying NHL's Thrashers ATLANTA Former Braves pitcher Tom Glavine says he would like to be part of an ownership group that keeps the NHL Thrashers in Atlanta. Glavine told an Atlanta radio station he hopes to organize an ownership group. He told 790-AM The Zone that he's "trying on my end" but he makes "no promises." Bruce Levenson, one of the lead owners seeking to sell the Thrashers, says Glavine has expressed interest. Despite reports there would be interest in the Thrashers in Winnipeg or elsewhere in Canada, Levenson said he is talking only with possible buyers who would keep the team in Atlanta. Glavine played high school hockey and baseball in Bil-lerica, and was drafted in both sports before winning 305 games with the Braves and New York Mets.

He has been a Thrashers season-ticket holder and coaches his son's youth hockey team. BYU's Fredette to play in Tahoe Celebrity Golf STATELINE, Nev.
