Mr. Arthur Whiting gave the second of his so-called University Recitals yes terday afternoon In Rumford IlalL The audience was considerably larger than at the first one, and showed much Interest In the performance of the old music upon the old Instruments. The programme this tlmo was devoted to French composers of the seventeenth and elghteenh centuries. Mr. Whiting; was assisted by Mrs.

Edith Chapman Gould, soprano, and by Mr. George Barrere on the flute, and Mr. Paul ICefer on the viola da gamba, Mr. Whiting himself played the harpschord. The instrumental music included trios by Couperin and Rameau for flute, viola da gamba, an harplschord; an adagio and glga by Leclalr for flute, a piece called by Marala.

and one by de Calx d'Hrrvelols caUed Le Paplllon for viola da gamba, both accompanied by the harpljcbord and, for harplschord alone, a chaconne by Couperin and a regaudon by Rameau. Several of these ensemble pieces must have been arrangements of pieces written for harplschord alone though no statement to that effect wss made upon the programme.
