FEATURING 2 GIFTS Wl Japan's eagerness to build up her postwar economic strength is making a "Cinderella Jewel" out of the large cultured pearl, says Ernest Heller, New York pearl expert Quick profit-taking from the oyster beds in Japan now the world's only source of cultured pearls prevents leaving the oysters long enough for large pearls to develop, with the result that the large cultured pearl is becoming extremely rare and is skyrocketing In value, Mr.

Heller said. Japanese oysters are naturally smaller than the South Sea island variety and since the latter have not been cultivated since the U. S. navy took over the islands after the war, the maximum size of modern cultured pearls is limited, Mr. Heller explained.

"We are now teeing something unique In the business and fashion world," Mr. Heller said. "The price of the plentiful small cultured pearl Is moving downward as supplies Increase, while the price of the extremely rare large cultured pearl is rising every day. The large size cultured pearl will eventually rival the "wild' oriental pearl In value." Man's ToSatry Ml of handtanw. ma hosany tona.
