cmc BOXD AFLOAT. Teoterday was qnito lirely day in. Wall street. At an early hour tbe Intelligence waa dr. culatod that several railroads were likely to default In the payment ef their bonds.

Among 'the roads mentioned were the Indianapolis. Bloomington'aid Western Railway, advances to which had caused 000008100 of Messrs. Turner Bros.) aad the California Padfie BaQroad, which It waa a toted wss not prepared to pay the Interest on its ezten sion bonds. These statements, which, open inquiry, were aacertaiaed to be well founded, naturally crested a feeling ot depression, which was intesai-fled when It waa made knoww that a cable dispatch from London announced the failure of the Atlantic and Great Western Bail-way Company, which baa defaulted in the payment of the interest of Us first mortgage bonds. Tbe announcement of the latter event created a semi-pan io in Erie, which dropped two per cent, in a few minutes.

To make matters worse, it was subsequently ascertained that suit had been commenced againat the Erie Company, The suit is brought by John Angell against tbe company aad ita Directors, and charges, first, the declaration of improper which bad not been really earned by the road, and wei illusive ia their character secondly, thst improper purchases were made by the company of tbe Buffalo, Kew York and Erie atock, the price paid for it being largely in excess ef tbe market value of the aaid atock at the time of its purchase, and thirdly, that tbe company made improper purchases of certain eoI lands. The fourth allegation in the complaint is tbst tbe title to said coal lands is vested in Peter K. Watson individually, without any declaration ot trusteeship on behalf of the Erie Railway Company. Tbe filth cnarga is tbst the assent ft the stockhold ers to the recent 130.000.000 mortgage executed by the na Company wss not obtained, and tnat they tbe stockholders) bad not received doe notice in regard to toe mortgage. Tbe answer of tbo company to these allegations is being prepared, and will douotlsss be filed in a few days.

From appearances it is safe to conclude that a rich harvest is in a to re for tbe lefal fraternity. Tbe company some ti me ago obtained an opinion from an eminent lawyer, tboroaghlv acquainted with Erie affairs, aflirming tbe validity ot the mortgage, and saying that it was effected in strict with legal requirements. The prayer of the complaint ia fur an accounting and receivership. Another event which created excitement on the street" waa tbe discovery ef a forged bond of toe Central Pacih Railroad. As already stated in TbX 'i'lMFS, several furred coupons belonging to Series Lr" have been afloat, but it was only yesterday that a counterfeit bond made ita appearance.

The forged security was discovered by a clerk of Mr. Edward Brandon, the well known broker. Mr. Brandon stated to a Times reporter that, to bia know ledge, it is the only one of its eeriee which bss turned up. II purchased It some time age from a German firm, ana he entertained no doubt that it came to this country from Europe.

The counterfeit differs from tbs genuine bond in many particulars. It is larger than the genuine, and inoi vidua! letters in several of the words fall a dots ot below tbeir compadfttn letters. Tbe bond has been forwarded to tbe oihee of ths Central Paciflo Company, who will to-day give to the public a full and minute aeseription of it. A meeting of the stockholders of the Old Dominion Colony fetejun-ship Company wss held yesterday, and a vote reducing the capital stock of tbe company from 1,500,000 to was unanimously adopted. The Governing Committee of the Stock Exchange yesterday sdupted a resolution to sojourn over fruin Eriaay afternoon to 11 o'clock Monday, the th inat.

BASE-BALL The eeoond championship game between tbe Philadelphia and Atlantic Clubs waa played on the Union Grounds yesterday in the presence of about 5,000 tpectators. At 4:03 play waa called by Mr Matthews, of the Mataala, with the Pbiladelphlaa at the bat. The gome opened favorably for the Atlas tics by a score of 1 to 0, a wild throw by Hicks, and a "muff" of Holdsworth, giving them the run. Xeither dab scored again until the. fifth Inning, when tbe Atlantic, by a bad throw of Holdsworto, got another man serosa the home plate.

Two good hits and the tricky base running of Booth, rave the Atlantica a run in the stxtii The opening of tbe ninth inning saw the Atlantica in the lead by a score of 5 to 0, snd everybody expecting to seethe Pbiladelpbiaa "Chieagoed," but this was not to be, aa Hicks, tbeir first striker, led off with a good hit for two bases, and being followed by raver, who nude a splenilid drive for three bases, three runs, two of which were earned, were scored before the aide waa pot out. The game, though marked with a very small score, wss out poorly played. Pearee and Knowdeli, for tbe Atlantica. played tbeir positions well, while Chapman and Bootu led at the bat. For tbe visitors Hicks and Craver fielded excellently, and led at the bat.

Mr. Jacob C.
