Nov. 1 1 (AP) Quarterback Bob Williams clicked off two all-time Notre Dame passing records today in hurling the Irish over Pittsburgh's pent-up Panthers 18-7. Nov. 1 1 (AP) California's devastating Bears practically clinched a third consecutive trip to the Rose Bowl today when they pulverized the University of California at Los Angeles Bruins, 35 to 0, in a conference football game. A sellout crowd of 81,000 watched the battle.

Only Stanford now stands between the undefeated, untied Bears and a return to the big bowl. Lynn (Pappy) Waldorf's hard hitting club demoralized U. C. L. A with a smashing offense that scored two touchdowns in the second period, two more in the third, and another in the fourth.

It was California 32nd consecutive victory in regular season games and the 22nd conference win in a row since 1947, Waldorf's first year as coach. Only two Rose Bowl defeats mar the great record, one to Northwestern and the second last New Year's Day to Ohio State, both by narrow margins.

I certainly wouid like to see that game!" Ike Armstrong. Minnesota athletic director, was talking over WLOL, Minneapolis radio station, after the game. "I think it would be a highly exciting game, because Ohio State and Michigan State operate about the same way fast, hard and with a versatile attack. I wouldn't want to say who would win, either. Ohio State defeated Minnesota, 48-0 earlier this season.

Armstrong, for many years highly successful coach at University of Utah, returned to his alma mater to succeed Frank Mc-Cormack as director for the Gophers last spring. But the genial Mr. Armstrong won't have a chance to see that meeting until next season. The Spartans are matched with Ohio State at Columbus on Oct. 6.

State takes on Oregon State and Michigan ahead of that game. Frank Waters, a fullback for Michigan State last year and who was hospitalized with serious injuries in an automobile WTeck while driving to this year's Notre Dame game, was a sideline stretcher guest. Coach Biggie Munn invited his former star to the game, and big Frank was carried in just before the contest started. He is to leave St. Lawrence hospital on Monday.

A Great Dane took a serious interest in the game in the first quarter. He wandered nonchalantly out on the field and held up proceedings while he was enticed to an exit. Rover wanted to play, and gave the groundsmen quite a time of it before conceding. Coach Bernie Bierman, the Gray Eagle of Minnesota football, had this to say after the game: "Michigan State had a good representative Big 10 team. Minnesota played the type of game we expected. We had to outfight them all the way." The Spartan players generally agreed that Minnesota hit as hard as any team met this year. Ray Vogt. Spartan defensive halfback speedster, is having some hard luck. He was injured on the first offensive play in the Notre Dame game and had to leave Saturday it was the same story against Minnesota.

Vogt's injury was not thought to be serious. Neither was that of Capt. LeRoy Crane who left the field In the fourth quarter. Wayne Robinson's line-backing for Minnesota drew applause of Coach Munn. "That fellow Robinson gave us a lot of trouble.

He is a very good football player. And I thought that Hudak'a running was fine, too." There was some kind of ruckus on the field when State failed to kick the extra point in the fourth quarter. There was a jampile of players who seemed to be engaging in a tugging and hauling contest, and the climax came when Deane Thomas, State defensive tackle, was excused from the exercises for the rest of the game. 32 SPECIAL WINCHESTER RED SHIRTS $3.25 RED GLOVES 39c "wool SPORT COATS $9.95 $10.95 $1395 Getting; Our Toys Out 4602-12 N.
