Wednesday at Gorsline-Runci- DEATHS Southwell, Wilma Y. Lansing, MI Age 92, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2004. Wilma was born in Lansing on September 17, 1911, to William and Esther Grahn, who were recent immigrants from Sweden. Wilma attended Lansing Public Schools, including Moors Park Elementary, Walter French Junior High, and Lansing Central Class of 1929. She later attended Acme Business College.

Wilma retired from the State of Michigan after 33 years of service. She spoke fondly of her years working win the Capitol, especially the day WWII ended. Wilma and her parents were charter members of the Scandinavian Lutheran Church, now Grace Lutheran Church. She been member of the Lansing Seventh Bane Adventist Church for over 60 years. Wilma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Dennis Ranville of Holt; 1 granddaughter, Elise Ranville of Holt; and 1 sister, Alice Grahn of Lansing.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 4, at 2 PM at the an Co. Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan AveLansing, with Rhonda Atkins officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing. The family will receive friends at the Chapel Tuesday from 6-8 PM.

Grace graduated from Resurrection High School in 1951 and was a lifelong member of the Church of the Resurrection and a member of the Altar Society.

She retired from Tranter Manufacturing after 35 years of service. She was preceded in death by her mother, Melina Gates; sister, Dorothy Adams; several aunts and uncles; and her special dogs, Skipper, Pranci, Fluffy and Spunky. Surviving are her brothers, Edward J. (Dorothy) Gates and Francis (Shirley) Gates, both of Lansing, sister, Ruth Osmer of Sheridan; brother-in-law, Charles Adams of Lansing; numerous nieces and nephews; and special dog, Gizmo. He was a member of University United Methodist Church of East Lansing and its children's choir. He participated in soccer, karate, baseball and swimming, but "running" was his favorite. He was a master of Nintendo and enjoyed family time at the cabin in the state of Wyoming. He was preceded in his grandfather, John W. Elwell in 2002.

Surviving are his parents, Dr. Bradley F. and Dr. Margaret "Meg" M. (Elwell) Ropp; sister, Tess M.

Lansing, MI Formerly of Perry Age 85, was taken into Jesus' arms on Sunday, August 1st at the AFC home where he resided. Born in St. Paul, MN, December 12, 1919, to Fred and Nelly (Davy) Tousley, he was the youngest of 6. children. All predeceased him.

He want to night school post high school, passed his CPA exam, and retired from the tax department of former BuddWheel '(now Thysen-Krupp-Budd) company in 1981. He married Karen "Kay" (Langquist) September 15th of 1956. Dick was an avid golfer, being part owner in the former Pine Hills Golf Course Laingsburg, where he golfed in leagues and privately until he was no longer able to. He also loved his post retirement volunteer work with the Mid-Michigan Red Cross blood bank; Tri County Office on Aging Senior Tax Department; and, for a time, Meals on Wheels. In April 1985, he received a Carnation Community Service Award for Volunteer of the Year.

We will greatly miss our husband and father on this earth, but know our hope is in seeing him in Heaven. Survivors include his wife, Karen "Kay" Tousley; 4 daughters, Lora (Larry) Lantis, Doreen (Jay) Wakefield, Claire (Ron) Squires, and Julia (Leland) Jordan; and 9 grandchildren, ages 5 to 21. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 5th at 11 AM at the House of Prayer Church M-78 in Haslett, Pastor Dave Cokonougher officiating. The family will receive friends after the service for fellowship in the basement of House of Prayer. There will be no cemetery interment.

Low calorie? No way. Low fat? Sometimes, but that's not really the point.

Licholat brings to life the nutritional information shared by dietitians to consume proteinpacked foods with plenty of calories to help the body heal after cancer treatments. "During this time, the body is under metabolic stress," said Carrie Stack, a registered dietitian who consults with patients on maintaining weight and appetite. "Protein helps build tissue and calories help spare muscle mass." Foods may not taste right during cancer treatment, and radiation on the neck or around the head can make swallowing a chore. Of course, the whole experience could leave patients too tired to cook. "What discourages people, anyone, from cooking at home is the prep time," said Licholat, a personal chef and student in Mott Community College's culinary program. "Patients undergoing cancer treatment may not have it in them to cook and need to conserve their energy." Licholat advises freezing batches of rice for later use and converting a basic white sauce into four dishes alfredo sauce with tri-color pasta, and Tilapia fillets, broccoli with cheese, threecheese macaroni and cheese or cream of vegetable soup. "It's a time saver, but you still have some variety," she said.
