Hope Phone 20664 BUSINESS IMPROVES AT CENTRAL MARKET Trading Shows Slight Gain; Prices Hold Close to Last Week's Levels Trade sloped up slightly at the municipal market Thursday while prices remained at approximately last week's levels with a few items slightly lower. Business was reported fair and 40 stalls were occupied by sellers. turkeys were selling under Tuesday's prices, bringing 23 to 25 cents 26 to 28 cents a pound dressed.

Ducks and geese were each 22 cents a pound dressed, with dressed chickens selling from 18 to 22 cents or 14 to 17 cents alive. Sausage and spare ribs appeared on the market at 18 cents a pound. Pork loin was priced at from 14 to 16 cents, bacon 20 cents and ham 30 to 32 cents a pound. new stock of apple butter was bringing $1.25 a gallon. Mince meat was 30 cents a quart and boiled cider 75 cents a gallon.

McIntosh apples were bringing $1 per bushel, Spys $1 and $1.25 as last week, but Greenings offered had fallen to 50 and 75 cents a bushel. Potatoes were 95 cents and $1 a a bushel. Onions, in 50 pound sacks, sold at 75 cents. Walnuts were $2 bushel, carrots and A turnips each $1 and hickory nuts $2.50 a bushel. Egg prices remained unchanged, at 18 cents, 22 cents and 22 to 25 cents a dozen.

FRIF REFIN PLAN IS ADVANCED Chesapeake and Ohio Company Would Hold 8 Percent Voting Power NEW YORK, Dec.

28 (P)-A large group of junior bond-holders, Erie railroad and its parent Chesapeake and Ohio railway announced agreement Thursday on a proposed reorganization plan for the Erie. The compromise plan would give C. and O. about 8 percent voting the Erie, against about percent" before the line went into reorganization nearly two years ago. C.

and O. also would receive warrants entitling it to regain about 1 percent more of control for each million dollars it desired to expend, to a maximum of 56 percent control. Fixed charges would be reduced from $14,149,326 to $6,931,505, plus contingent interest of $2,380,023 a year. Total fixed interest and preferred dividend requirements under the present Erie setup are 782, and under the proposed plan would, with contingent interest, total $11.261,594 a year. A group of holders of Erie refunding and improvement mortgage bonds approved the plan here yesterday, the last step before submission to the interstate commerce commission Thursday and notification to interested parties.

Deaths William H. Hildabridle William H. Hildabridle, 72. a former resident of Lansing for 36 years. died at the home, 427 West Lovett street, Charlotte, Wednesday afternoon following a two-weeks' illness.

He had been employed by the Grand Trunk railway as station agent for 43 years but had been retired for the past four years. He was at Trowbridge and Lansing stations and for his last three years of employment at Charlotte. He is survived by the widow. Blanche: two sons. Lawton of Charlotte and Earl of Lansing: a sister, Mrs.

George Lockwood of Williamston and two brothers Oscar Allen of Lansing and Louis Allen of Chicago. Ill. The body was removed to the Gorsline-Runciman funeral home where funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 o'clock. The Rev. Mr.

28 (P)-Misfortune, which has dogged the footsteps of Mr. and Mrs. Uno Johnson. struck again today as fire wiped out their farm home in Fruitport township. The Johnsons had planned to return to the old family home in Finland, but had been unable to do so because of the Russo-Finnish war and the fact that this home, in one of the war zones, may not now be standing.

Today's fire left Mr. and Mrs. Johnson and their five children completely homeless. fire started from the kitchen stove. Johnson had to smash windows to rescue his wife and children.

28 (AP) Miss Frances Donaldson of Louisville, China manager of an embroidery exporting concern, reported today a Japanese sentry struck her with his fist as she was crossing the Szechuen road bridge into the international settlement. Miss Donaldson said she inadvertently crossed the span on the right side, contrary to Japanese military regulations. She said the incident took place December 20 but she delayed making a report to the United States consul general because she feared possible reprisals to her business. Dec. 28 (AP) A 65-year-old guard was bludgeoned to death on state prison's death row early today in what Superintendent Oscar Pitts described as a desperate escape attempt by two negroes already under sentence to die for murder. Pitts said the negroes, Clarence Rogers and William Young, confessed they bound and gagged the guard, J. S. Chesser, and fatally beat him, hoping to gain their way to freedom.
