BAlmanac Enquirer and News, April 30, 1980 Obituaries Police and Fire School children were harassed in two incidents reported to Battle Creek police Tuesday. In one, children playing at Fremont Elementary School playground said a man exposed himself while standing in woods behind the playground about 5 p.m. In the other, two Safety Patrol boys from Roosevelt Elementary School said a man tried to entice them to get into a gray van at Burnham Avenue and Terrace Street about 5 p.m. John Bloom, 33, of 236 Barnhart Road, Coldwater, was listed in fair condition this morning in Branch County Community Hospital with injuries suffered in an accident at 7:55 p.m. Tuesday.

Branch County sheriff's deputies said Bloom was a passenger in a pickup truck driven by Donald G. Bercaw, 44, of 655 Dayburg Road, Quincy, which ran off southbound Old US-27 and struck a road sign and a bridge over Cold Creek. They said the truck reportedly was weaving all over the road before the accident occured. Deputies said Bercaw was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and was in the Branch County Jail this morning pending arraignment Billie Jean SommevlUe, 22, of 145 Illinois St. was treated at Leila Hospital and released Tuesday after a car she was driving hit the rear of a car driven by Russell W.

Urton, 65, of 47 Kimber St. about 5:40 p.m. on Union Street near Sherman Road, Battle Creek police reported. Ms. Sommeville was charged with violation of the basic speed law, police said.

Charles H. McDonald Charles H. McDonald, 53, of 140 N. 27th died Tuesday in Community Hospital, where he had been a patient since March 17. He had been ill 18 months.

He was born in Battle Creek and a was a lifelong area resident. He owned and operated McDonald's Distributing Warehousing Co. He was a member of the Lakeview Lions Club and attended the Fundamental Baptist Church. Surviying are his wife, the former Betty Jo Barker; a son, Charles H. McDonald Jr.

of 1233 W. Michigan daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Terrill) Jordan of 16993 10-Mile Road, Mrs. Milton (June) Barrow of 41 Winifred and Miss Kerri L. McDonald of 183 N.

25th brothers, Clifford McDonald of 25 Webber and Duane McDonald of 24 Fairview sisters, Mrs. Geral-dine Mapes of 4003 W. Territorial Road, Mrs. Edward (Emma) Martin of Kalamazoo, and Mrs. Olive James of Marshall; and six grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hebble Funeral Home. John W.Wallace John W. Wallace, 69, of 10450 6-Mile Road, died Tuesday in Leila Hospital. He was born in Athens, and moved to Battle Creek in 1977 from Addison.

He formerly was an electrician and since coming to Battle Creek had been manager of the Hickory Hills Mobile Home Park. He was Navy veteran of World War II, was a member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church at Cambridge Junction, a former member of the Addison Kiwanis Club, a member of the Addison Products Management Club and was active in the Addison High School Booster Club. He is is survived by his wife, the former Jane Knapp; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Gail) Hickory of Battle Creek; sons, Ronald of East Lansing, Thomas of Adrian, and David Wallace of Addison; two grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs.

Willie Ray of Sumter, S.C.; and a half-sister, Mrs. Dorothy Wynn of Sumter; and stepsisters, Lucille and Helen Cooper of Atlanta. Ga. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brown-VanHemert Funeral Home, Addison.

Memorial donations may be made to the Addison Rescue Unit. Catherine Cranham, former teacher, dies COLDWATER Mrs. Catherine (Martini) Cranham, 74, of 16460 Iyo-pawa Road former store owner and teacher, died Tuesday In the Carriage Inn Convalescent Center after a longthy illness. She was born in St. Louis, and moved to the Coldwater area from Detroit in 1948.

She and her husband, Arthur J. Cranham, owned and operated Cranham's General Store in Girard until 1973. She also taught in Hazel Park and was a substitute teacher in the Cold-water schools. She was a member of St. Mark Episcopal Church and Butler OES Chapter 480.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur J. Cranham; sons, David Cranham of Coldwater, and Bruce of Sault Ste. Marie; a daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Barbara) Cook of Alexandria, five grandchildren; and sisters, Mrs. Clara Clark of Riverview, and Mrs.

Henry Lillian) Johnson of Hazel Park. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mark Episcopal Church. Arrangements are by Gillespie Funeral Home.

PaulW. Baker BRSONSON Paul W. Baker, 61, of 69858 Krontz Road. Sturgis, and formerly of Bronson, died Monday In Sturgis Hospital, where he had been a patient since Friday. He was born in Stroh, and resided in Bronson 28 years before moving to Sturgis three years ago.

He was employed by Leco Corp. as a tool-and-die maker and earlier had been employed by Bronson Specialties. He was a member of Bronson Chapter OES, a past master of Lodge 141, was a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of the Shrine. He was a member and past adjutant of American Legion Post 2S9, a member of VFW Post 5003, and a life member of the Sturgis Moose Lodge. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, the former Evelyn Jones; daughters. Mrs. Murray (Judith) Landon of Battle Creek, Mrs. Ronald (Diana) Richards of Ingleside, 111., Mrs. Brenn (Johanna) Arklie and Mrs.

David (Melody) Couture, both of Sturgis, and Mrs. Marsha Baker Shelton of Jasper. 10 grandchildren; and sisters, Mrs. Joyce Mendenhall of Ca-mano Island, Mrs. Helen Sutton of Bluffton, Mrs.

Russell (Zula) Adams of Bronson and Mrs. William (Janice) Campbell of Wolcottville, Ind. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Kubasiak-Kolcz Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Michigan Heart Association or American Cancer Society.

Approximately $2,500 in property was reported stolen during a break-in at a home in the 100 block of College Street, Battle Creek police said. Reported missing was stereo equipment, two color television sets, a gold watch, a man's diamond ring, three tables and two lamps. The home was entered between 8:30 p.m. Monday and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday by cutting open a screen window, police said.

In another incident, a stereo system valued at $269 was reported stolen from a home in the first block of Hubbard Street, police said. Clyde C. Kay Js JEI George H.Porter CHARLOTTE George H. Porter, 82, of 2825 Brookfield Road, died Monday in a hospital in Phoenix, Ariz. He was spending the winter in Phoenix.

He was born in Jackson and had been a resident of Charlotte 15 years. He was an retired inspector for several agencies of the United States government. His wife, the former Lillian Woods, died in 1971. Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Alex (Rosanne) Telfer of Charlotte and Mrs.

Bernico Marler of Destin, eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Arrangements are pending at Pray Funeral Home. Linden J. Bryans HASTINGS Linden J. Bryans, 68, of 4 Culbert Drive, died Tuesday in Pen-nock Hospital.

Arrangements are pending at Leonard, Osgood and Wren Funeral Home. (EDGES Clyde C. Kay, 56, of Lowell and formerly of Fine Lake, died Tuesday in St. Mary's Hospital. Grand Rapids.

He had been ill the past year. He was born and reared in Scotts and was employed 16 years by Scotts Milling Co. He also drove bus for Cli-max-Scotts School District and was employed by Olivet College nine years. Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret VanVleet; a son, Andrew Taylor Jr. of Fine Lake; daughters, Mrs.

Susan Foss of Bellevue, Mrs. Dan (Louise) Tyler of Portage, and Mrs. Henry (Sandra) Huyck of Grand Rapids; a sister, Mrs. David (Florence) Vos of Kalamazoo; and four grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 p.m.

Participating attorneys will hold legal clinics at the Hall of Justice in Battle Creek and in Probate Court rooms in the Calhoun County Building in Marshall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Bar Association said no appointments are necessary at the clinics and attorneys will answer questions from any person with a legal problem.

Attorneys will not give advice on matters in which a person has consulted another attorney, not will the attorneys prepare written documents during the clinics. Conferences will be limited to 20 minutes. Other attorneys also will speak at area high school classes as part of the Law Day observance. Clyde F. Ellis, 84, died Tuesday in Springhill Manor, where he had been a patient four months.

He was born in Assyria Township and moved to Convis Township as a child. He was employed by Consumers Power Co. 47 years and retired at the age of 65. His wife, the former Freda Keeler, died in 1973. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs.

Donald (Patricia) Basse tt of Bellevue; sons, Clyde Ellis of Addision, and Jack of Portage; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mrs. James (Marie) Burns of Battle Creek and Mrs. Leona Shore of Detroit. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Royal Funeral Home.

Mrs. Harlow F. Andridge Mrs. Hazel B. (Harden) Andridge, 86, of 242 N.

Wood died Tuesday in the Battle Creek Sanitarium Hospital shortly after her arrival. She had been in failing health 10 years. She was born in Wabash, and moved to Battle Creek in 1934. She was employed by Percy Jones General Hospital until it closed and then was employed by Community Hospital until 1960. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school many years.

Her husband, Harlow F. Andridge, died in 1951. Surviving are a stepdaughter, Mrs. Muriel Knuth of South Bend, daughters. Mrs.

Alvin (Wanda) Brooker of 369 Bedford Road, and Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Cronkhite of 100 N. 32nd eight grandchildren; and 14 greatgrandchildren. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Farley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Glen H.Sherwood Mrs. Delia V. Bracy) Sherwood, 87, of 23 E. Clinton Drive, died Tuesday in Community Hospital, where she had been a patient since April 21.

She had been ill several years. She was born in Farwell. and moved to Battle Creek as a child with her family. She later resided in Illinois, Iowa and Florida before returning to Battle Creek 10 years ago. Her husband, Glen H.

Sherwood, died in 1975. She is survived by a sieter, Mrs. Earl M. (Edith) Haas of 28 E. Clinton Drive.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by Farley Funeral Home. Earney C. French Earney C.

French, 86, of 113 N. Division died Tuesday in Leila Hospital, where he was admitted that day. He was born in Burlington and except for time spent in Texas with the Michigan 32nd National Guard, he had resided in the Battle Creek area all his life. He was employed 39 years by Post Division, General Foods Corp. After his retirement from Post, he was employed as a small engine repairman by the former Gamble Store in Battle Creek.

He was a member of the Battle Creek and Wilder Creek Sportsman's clubs and the Post 25-Year Club. Surviving are his wife, the former Hallie M. Plumb Lytle; a son, Elroy C. French of Markham, Ontario; a daughter, Mrs. Helena Augustine of Taylor; stepdaughters, Mrs.

John (Doris) Cash of Violet, Mrs. Jane Bowne of 116 Inn Road, and Mrs. Ralph (Margaret) Oaks of Delta, stepsons, Ralph Lytle of Lake Bluff, 111., and Jim Lytle of Rose Hill, five grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, Carl French of Toronto. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Richard A.

Henry Funeral Home. Setting It Straight Cars driven by Jeffrey E. Chichester, 21, of 332 S. Capitol Athens, and Keith B. Holt, 67, of 1845 6-Mile Road, Athens, did not collide in a Monday auto accident, as was reported Tuesday.

Calhoun County sheriff's deputies said Chichester avoided striking the rear of Holt's auto, but his car left Drive South, west of 6-Mile Road, and struck two trees.
