Haslett Age 43, born January 23, 1953; died June 15, 1996. Mark was a grad-uate of Okemos High School and Ferris State College: and was most recently a Real Estate Broker and member of the Board of Realtors. As the developer of the Spring Lake Neighborhood in Meridian Township, in con-junction with his father, Don Hodney, Mark was noted for his sensitivity to environmental issues.

His designs received several awards, including the Environmental Awareness Award from the Greater Lansing Home Builders Association. He was commended by the Okemos Board of Education for his active role in the development of Hiawatha Elementary School, and he also built and donated the Butterfly and Nature Center of the school. Mark had been active in numerous public causes, including the preservation of the Ingham County Library system, Habitat for Humanity and the Michigan Dyslexia Institute. Surviving are 3 children, Jennifer Lynn, Eric Scott, and Brian James; father, Donald Carter Hodney; mother, Cora Lou Hodney; and 1 sister, Connie Lee (David) Dick-haut. Mark was an excellent skier, a gifted photographer, and a very loving father who will be missed By all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 20, 4 p.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River, East Lansing, with the Rev. Kathryn DeMougin, Unity Minister, officiating.

Visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Michigan Dyslexia Institute, 532 E. Shiawassee, Lansing 48912, in memory of Mr. Hodney. BEMENT, CLARENCE E.

"PETE" Winsted, CT Age 67, died Monday, June 17, 1996 at his home. He was the husband of, Ann (Collins) Bement. Born October 1, 1928 in Lansing, MI, the son of the late Robert and Geraldine (Sandborn) Bement; and had lived in Winstea since 1947. Prior to his retirement, he had worked in Research and Development for Hamilton Standard for 41 years. He was a fraduate of the J.D.

Sexton High chool in Lansing, Class of 1946; attended colleges in New York State, was a Navy Veteran of World War II; a member of the Knights of Columbus, former Registrar of Voters in the Town of Winchester, and former Chairman of the Democratic Town Committee. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John R. Bement of Winsted; 3 daughters, Mary Dauphinais of Winsted, Dr. Collette Bement-Langner of Tolland and Karen Gartin of Darien; a sister, Margaret Muttart of Worthington, OH; 10 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m.

Wednesday from the Maloney Funeral Home, 55 Walnut Street, to St. Joseph Church for the funeral liturgy at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Winsted. Friends may call at the Funeral Home Tuesday, 6-9 p.m.

Westphalia Born March 15, 1909, the son of Bernard and Christine (Smith) Harr; died June 17, 1996 at the age of 87. Mr. Harr was a retired Farmer, employee of the Westphalia Mill and Caretaker of St.

Mary's Catholic Cemetery. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of West- Ehalia, the St. Joseph Society, the t. Jude Council 2890-Knights of Columbus of Westphalia and the Farm Bureau.

Preceded in death by 1 daughter, Janet G. Schafer (1991); 2 grandchildren, Kathy (Schaefer) Przedwojewski, Suzanne Schafer; 3 brothers, Walter, Marvin and John. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Bernita M. (Thelen); 5 daughters, Gladys C. (Henry) Dreps of DeWitt, Doris V.

She was a member of Living Word Outreach Church. She was born in Clyde, MI in 1918. Preceded in death by her husband, Leo; and 1 daughter, Bonnie Thompson. She is survived by 2 daughters, Delores Vasquez of Lansing, Rosemary Sims of DuQuoin, IL; 1 son, Dale Thompson of DeWitt; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Gladys Lundy, Betty Bennett, Patricia Evans; and 4 brothers, Milton Burns, Franklin Burns, Edwin Burns and Patrick Witherell. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 19, 10 a.m.

Mrs. Kowatch was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, and a retired Registered Nurse. Preceded in death by her husband, Roman and grandson, Brent Kowatch. Surviving are 14 children, Michael (Pat) Kowatch, Mary Kowatch, Marge Geil, Janette Cardinal, Jackie (Mike) Vinitski, Mark Kowatch, Joseph (Linda) Kowatch, Monica (Tom) Impellizeri, Jeffrey (Sherri) Kowatch, Julie (Kim) Thomas, Kevin (Marlene) Kowatch, Kenneth (Sara) Kowatch, Jeannie (Fred) Sexton, Brian Kowatch; 29 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, June 20, 1 1 a.m. at St Peter's Catholic Church, 515 E. Knight Eaton Rapids, with the Rev. Bennett Con-stantine, Pastor officiating. The Rite of Committal will be held in St.

BRITTEN, AILEEN E.A. Okemos Age 82, died Monday, June 17, 1996 at her home. Born in Trout Creek, MI on October 29, 1913, the child of Edward and Gustaava (Rimpa-lainen) Besonen, she graduated from Trout Creek High School; attended Suomi College; and was a member of the Williamston Woman's Club, AARP and Red Cedar Garden Club. Her life work was with the State of Michigan Mental Health; and she retired from Michigan State University after 20 vears of service. On March 10, 1940, she married Robert W.

Britten in the People's Church, East Lansing, and he predeceased her in 1966. Also receding her in death were 2 rothers, Andrew and Alvar Besonen; and sister, Alvie Buxton. Surviving are 2 daughters, Roberta Britten and Marilyn Britten, both of Okemos; brothers, Arnie A. and Ar-vid Besonen, both of Trout Creek; and sister, Aino Besonen of Trout Creek. Funeral services will be held 1 1 a.m.

Friday, June 2 1, 1996 at the Nelson-House Funeral Homes (LaRowe Chapel, Perry), with Rev. Dr. Daryl Neves officiating. Burial in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 20, 7-9 p.m.

He was born in Lansing the son of Edgerton and Lillian Morgan Peters, and was a long time resident of Eaton Rapids.

He was retired from maintenance, and heating and cooling installation. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and was a member of the Charlotte V.F.W. post. Surviving are his wife, Marilyn; 5 children, Gay (Joel) Heintzel-man of Eaton Rapids, Irene (Greg) Meyer of Lansing, Steven (Teresa) Peters of Colorado, Carol (Robert) Peters of Maryland, and Michael (Dana) Peters of Eaton Rapids; and 9 grandchildren. Also surviving is 1 sister, Beatrice Harris of Sumner, MI; and 1 brother, Max Peters of Springport.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with visitation today 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Classified section. ASELTINE, HELEN A. Dansville Age 75, died June 16, 1996.

Born November 27, 1920 in Toledo, OH, the daughter of Fred and Hallie Cox Mrs. Asel-tine was a resident of Dansville all her life and a graduate of Dansville High School in 1940. She was preceded in death by her son, Allen (1968). Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Archie, whom she married on May 27, 1940; 3 daughters, H. Audrey (Ray) Meehling of Eureka, Janice Parrish of Holt and Jeannette (Ray) Hart of Owosso; 3 sons, Archie (Katherine) Jr.

of Byron, C. James of Holt and David of Dansville; 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Fred (Snerri) Cox of Florida; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2 p.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. Ball-Dunn Chapel, 621 S.

Potterville Age 99, died Monday, June 17, 1996. He was born in Bay County, October 6, 1896. Preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia, and second wife, Floretta; son, Manley (Tug) Meddaugh; great granddaughter, Trish Meddaugh. Survived by daughter-in-law, Audrey Meddaugh, who cared for Charlie in his later years; 3 grandchildren, Charles (Nancy) and Ron (Jane) Meddaugh, and Sally Mennell; 7 great-granachildren; 9 treat-great grandchildren; 3 step-aughters and their families. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m.

Wednesday, June 19, 1996 at Chapel In The Pines Funeral Home with Rev. Toby Stadden of Congre- Eational United Church of Christ, ewiston, MI, officiating. Interment Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends today, 7-9 S.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of owers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of Lansing in memory of Charlie. PALMER, GERTRUDE K. Leslie Age 96, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 1996 at home under the care of special friends. She was artistically inclined and enjoyed making dolls and painting china. Mrs.

Palmer loved and cared for her family and grandchildren. Surviving are: daughter, Sharon (Edward) Morgan; son, Charles A. (Barbara) Palmer; 6 grandchildren; brother-in-law, Sheldon Winslow; and close friends, Bill Jewell, Donna Bennett, Linda Winnie, Rhonda Bennett, Justine Shephard, and Priscilla Clark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. on October 31, 1995.
