Community involvement, hobbies: She was a member of Bethlehem Temple-Springfield and was a former member of the Senior Choir and Usher Board. She enjoyed working in church and traveling.

23, 1996, at Pennock Hospital. She was born July 14, 1906, in Battle Creek to William and Ella Mae McCullum) Collins. She was raised in the the Battle Creek-Pennfield areas and attended local schools. She married Russell H. Lake on July 14, 1923, and they lived in Battle Creek and Bellevue.

In 1950, they moved to Barry County's Rutland Township and farmed. Preceding her in death were her husband in November 1986, son Richard in 1994, grandson Tom Harvath, three sisters and four brothers. Survivors are daughters, Betty Jean Harvath and Bonnie Jean Wilson, both of Hastings, Ella Mae Hoyt of Marshall, Rose Mary McBrian of MiddleVille; sons, Buddy Lee and Russell Lake, both of Hastings, and Jack Lake of Freeport; 30 grandchildren, several great- and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeannette Ingersoll of St Petersburg, and brothers Frank, Ed and Jim Collins, all of Battle Creek. Visitation: 2-5 p.m. today at Wren Funeral Home, Hastings.

Lillian L. Allen Cloverdale Lillian Allen, 63, of Cloverdale, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 1996 at Tendercare in Hastings. She was born Jan. 7, 1933, in Kalamazoo to Clarence and Lillian (Morgan) McKelvey.

She was a dietician and cook at Pennock Hospital for 30 years, retiring in 1993 because of poor health. Survivors include three sons, Danny Allen of Baldwin and Rex and Glenn Allen, both of Cloverdale; eight grandchildren; and brothers, Donald McKelvey of Baldwin, Ronald McKelvey of Hastings and Jody McKelvey of Vermontville. Community involvement, hobbies: She liked to crochet and put together puzzles and loved her grandchildren. Services: Cremation has been conducted. A memorial gravesite service will be 1 1 a.m.

Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, N.C. She was born June 22, 1913, in Tekonsha Township to Harry and Anna Mary (Willerick) Snyder. She was a graduate of Marshall High School and County Normal School. She had been employed by the Wilcox-Rich Steel Win Schuler's Restarant and Woodline Metal Co. She married Elsworth S.

Bartlett in Lagrange, in 1939. He died in 1985. A lifelong area resident, she moved to North Carolina in 1991 to live with her daughter. Also preceding her in death were sisters Carrie Whittaker, Bernice Kenworthy, Alice Schrock and Helen Brubaker, and brothers, Dale and Sterling E. Gay Homosassa, Fla.

Sterling E. 'Gay, 84, of Homosassa, and formerly of Battle Creek, Wednesday, Aug. at Alachua General Hospital in Gainesville. He was born in Berkley, and Ncame to Homosassa 25 years ago from Battlle Creek. He was a member of.

the Assembly of God, Trenton. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of the i Disabled American Veterans, and a retired member of the AFLCIO. His wife, the former Mary M. Clifton, died in February. Surviving are a son, Robert A Gay ''of Bell, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Services: A service of remembrance will be held Monday at the Homosassa Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes. Burial: Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Mildred M. Powell Charlotte Mildred M. Powell, 90, of Charlotte, died Friday, Aug.

23, 1996, at her daughter's home after a lengthy illness. She was born Sept 9, 1905, in Clarence Township to Currell D. and W. Maude (Miller) Starks, and was a lifelong area resident She was a 1924 graduate of Albion High School. She worked for the former Behnke's Plumbing in Charlotte, had done babysitting at home and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Charlotte Free Methodist Church. She married Maynard A Powell in November 1930; he preceded her in death in August 1968. Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Dexter of Charlotte; a son, Jared A Powell of Greensboro, N.C., seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, sisters, Marjorie Hecocks of Spring Arbor and Myrna Brandt of Albion; and brothers, Wesley and Lyndon Starks, both of Grayling. Visitation: 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

13, 1904, in Burlington Township to Henry and Marie (T a 1 a Allwardt. She graduated from Union City High School. Leona P. Converse She married Austin A Converse on Oct 17, 1923, in Battle Creek. He died in 1978.

Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Irene Ellen, in 1931; sisters, Ida Healy, Florence Myers, Myrtle Wells and Loie Converse; and brothers, Lyle and Clarence Allwardt Surviving are a daughter, Rowene M. Snyder of Athens, four granchil-dren, 10 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren, and a brother, Victor Allwardt of Union City. Community involvement, hobbies: Member of Athens Congregational Church, Tadmore Extension Club and Past Council of Calhoun County Extension Service, charter member of the 4-H Club of Michigan and a 4-H leader in Athens for many years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crafts and taught adult education class in sewing and knitting at Athens schools. Visitation: 4-7 p.m.

23, 1996, at home. She was born April 14, 1934, in Convis Township to Louis and Catherine (Kilbourn) Ormsbee. She married Cecil Robinson on Nov. 11, 1950. He survives.

Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue. Memorials: American Cancer Society. Kenneth A. Mestdagh Homer Kenneth A Mestdagh, 66, of Homer, died Aug. 22, 1996, at his home.

He was born June 29, 1930, in Homer Township to Hector and Emily (Speybrouch) Mestdagh. He lived on the family farm all of his life, which he also farmed until two years ago. He was- a 1948 graduate of Homer High School. He married Mary Kaye Hepleron Oct 1, 1955, in Concord on Oct 1, 1955. She survives.

Also surviving are daughters, Jacquelyn Tidd, Stephanie C. Mestdagh, and Anne Lee Leach; a son, Stephen Mestdagh; five grandchildren; and brothers, Robert J. Mestdagh and Edward P. Mestdagh, all of Homer. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Mary in 1936.

Community involvement, hobbies: Enjoyed antiques, flea markets, auctions, his family, visiting at the local grain elevator and people in general. Visitation: Noon to 9 p.m. today at the Homer Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels Inc, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Rosary at 7 p.m.

24, 1996, at home. He was born Jan. 3, 1928, in Nashville to Ard and Ina (Hamilton) Decker. He attended the local country school and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He married Dawn Benedict on March 1, 1947, in Biloxi, Miss. She survives. Mr. Decker worked at Fisher Body and was an electrician for the city of Portland for 32 years. An infant daughter, Scarlet, preceded him in death.

Also surviving are sons, Kenneth Decker of Vermontville, Robert A Decker of Ionia, and Russell Decker of Portland; daughters, Brenda Whitaker of Portland, Carol Bice of Mount Plesasant, and Betty Ten Eyck of Nashville; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Alfred of Nashville, John of Delton, Elton of Kansas, and Larry of Nashville; and a sister, Ardeen Varney of Nashville. Community Involvement, hobbies: He was a member of the Portland Fire Department, Grand River Conservation Club, Dad's Post No. 8260 of Nashville, and Vermontville American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, deer hunting, fishing and going for rides in the country. Visitation: 7-9 p.m.

She was born Dec. 25, 1950, in Glennville, to Leroy and Inez (Mattox) Morris. Mrs. Smith grew up and attended school in the Glennville area. She married Kenneth Wayne Smith in Glennville on July 12, 1967, and the couple moved to Union City in October 1992.

He survives. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother. Also surviving are a son, William of Glennville; daughter Shanda Yates of Marshall; a grandson; brother Gerald Morris of Newnan, and a sister, Gwen Lee of Savannah Beach, Ga. Community involvement, hobbies: Her family and friends were important to her and she enjoyed country music Visitation: 4-6 p.m. today.

Seckbach, 83, of Battle Creek, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 1996, at Laurels of Bedford where she had been a patient for two years. She was born July 12, 1913, in Hudson, to Harry and Mattie (Schrader) DeLong. She graduated from Sturgis High School in 1931. She married Alfred Seckbach.

He died in September 1972. Mrs. Seckbach was a homemaker most of her life. While in Sturgis, she worked at Oakwood Tavern as a waitress in 1931-33, Cugley Incubator Co. in 1933-34, Scattergood Jewelry Store as a sales clerk in 1936, at WSTR radio with her own radio show in 1961-62, at St Joseph County Health Department for immunization of schoolchildren program, and at the Sturgis Chamber of Commerce 1971-73.

She came to Battle Creek in 1988. Her son, Scott Seckbach of Battle Creek, survives. Community involvement, hobbies: She was a member of Sturgis First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed knitting, reading, playing bridge and other card games, fishing, listening to Big Band music, and her animals. Visitation: After 2 p.m.

Outstate youth placements halted Associated Press DETROIT A state agency has apparently settled a lawsuit with the American Civil Liberties Union over the practice of shipping Michigan juvenile delinquents out of state. A judge Friday sent a rapist back, to Texas for treatment The decision ended two months of hearings on the controversial out-of-state shipments. Judges found only two youths had been sent away improperly and should stay in Michigan. The state Family Independence Agency spent more than $50,000 to bring 90 youths back to Michigan for hearings on their placements.

FIA Director Gerald Miller said there are not enough beds in Michigan to accommodate the more than 5,000 youths under FIA supervision.
