The defending champions of the American Hockey League, Cleveland's Barons, were one up on the Buffalo Bisons today following the opener of the best-of-seven final playoffs for the Calder Cup.

Dan Sprout, star of Cleveland's defense men, and Fred Thurier, an elusive center, provided the Barons' sc punch for a 3 to 2 victory last night before 12,359 fans, largest attendance since the arena was opened In 1937. Tomorrow night and Sunday the second and third games of the finals will be played in Buffalo, after which the teams start alternating between the two cities in single games. After Cleveland's last tally, Buffalo notified the referee it was protesting the game because of the frequency with which Cleveland fans were holding up the game by showering programs on the ice. But league president Maurice Podoloff said the actions of the fans were no grounds for protest. Montreal Defeats Boston In Playoffs "sS" Wv Museum Honors Eisenhower.

t-yberg HOI To Avenge Mat Defeat Tonight Don Eagle, Indian Adonis, promises to behave himself when he seeks to avenge a defeat against Fred Bozic in the feature match on Sam Muchnick's five bout wrestling show at Kiel Auditorium tonight. In his first bout here, the colorful Redskin suddenly interrupted his long winning streak by going berserk. He twisted Eozic's head between the ropes, lashed his body with blows and then capped his mad spree by flooring the referee, who attempted to intervene. This last act was enough for the referee who promptly disqualified the red-man. Appearing in the semi-final, Frankie Talaber, a crowd-pleaser, will also attempt to get back on a winning streak.

Recently, Frankie dropped a verdict to heavyweight Ed Virag. Spotting his opponent, Frank Jares, 15 pounds, Talaber does not expect as much trouble as he did in his bout with Virag.
