The spokesman blamed a "worsening domestic n-sumer climate" and difficulties in the export market for the decision. lie said assembly lines would be running again next Monday. The shutdown affected about 90,000 of the concern's 130,000 work force, the spokesman said. Import Steel Record Seen (C) N. V.

Times News Service PITTSBURGH Steel imports probably set a record level in the past year. This was strongly indicated last week with word that imports in November were over 1.47 million tons, bringing the total through 11 months to 16.98 million tons. Trade specialists said there was little question that December statistics would show a steel intake for the full year in excess of the prvious high of 17.96 million tons in 1968. The November import information came from the United States State Department in the final stages of negotiating a new voluntary import quota for steel. A department official said the new three-year agreement would use the old limit, rather than actual 1971 imports, as a starting base.

With a 2'2 per cent growth factor, this meant imports would come down from over 18 million tons in 1971 to about 16 million tons in 1972. Farm Prices Up A II I GTON (AP)-Prices farmers received for raw products rose 2 per cent in December, the third successive monthly increase, and averaged 12 per cent more than a year ago, the Agriculture Department announced Thursday.
