Dick Parfitt, a 1953 graduate of Central Michigan College after starring in basketball and baseball, was named officially by the CMU Board of Trustees as the new basketball coach at his alma mater.

He succeeds the dean of Michigan's collegiate basketball coaches, Ted Kjolhede, who earlier this month announced he was retiring from coaching after 15 years as head man at CMU, also his alma mater, to devote more time to his duties as assistant athletic director. Parfitt spent nine successful years coaching at the h'gh school level following his graduation as a commerce major and physical education minor in 1953. Haslett's first places were in the sprint medley composed of Dave Bouck, Don Graham, Mike Brook and Glen Burger. Bouck, Graham, Brook and Bob Shaw ran for the Vikings in the 880 relay.
