J2D LocalState Lansing State Journal Tuesday, June 71994 3 GREATER LANSING picnic on the lawn at the Michigan Women's Historical Center and Hall of Fame, 213 W. Main St, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m Wednesday. A The picnic will honor women who were firsts in their vocations or activities and will mark the grand opening of the "Century of Women" exhibit The exhibit celebrates the upcoming 75th anniversary of the 19th Amendment which gave women the right to vote, and it tells the progress of Michigan women in the 20th century. Cost for the picnic is $30 for adults and $8.50 for children.

For information, call 484-1880. The exhibit will be at the center through October. Hours are noon to 5 p.m Wednesday through Friday and 2 pjn. to 4 p.m. Sundays.

Admission: $2.50 for adults, $1 for children, $2 for senior citizens. Hope Elementary School in Lansing, has been named DeWitt's 1994 Citizen of the Year. He's the 13th recipient of the annual award. A selection committee listed Robison's achievements: Chairing DeWitt City Parks and Recreation Committee and planning for parks and recreation programs. Serving on City Tree Commission, which aided development of a new city tree nursery and parks landscaping.

Serving with DeWitt Memorial Association and helping with the annual DeWitt Ox Roast Booster of high school swimming and soccer teams, and aiding with design and building sets for the high school musical. Working with youth soccer teams, beginning with 5-and 6-year-olds, for more than nine years; also starting and coaching a women's soccer team. ribbon cutting at the new headquarters. He was one of the organizers of the peace group 25 years ago. Author to speak at hospital Best-selling author Diane Fassel will speak on "Working Ourselves to Death: Work Stress, the Health Care Professional and Recovery" at 7 p.m.

Hopkins, real estate broker and Capital Federal Savings and Loan Director for many years. She was, until her illness, an active life member of Plymouth Congregational Church, of Chapter BZ, P.E.O. Sisterhood, and of Lansing Tuebor Chapter, Professional Secretaries International. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs.

Sue Ellen (Warren) Emrick; grandson, James Brooks Crane of Lansing; and step-daughter, Mrs. Marcia Lynn (Stephen) Weaver; granddaughter, Mrs. Lisa (Louis) Chaves; and grandson, Daniel (Judy) Wagner; and 5 great grandchildren; a brother, Richard D. Miller; her loving caregivers, Gwen Oliver and Cindy Betts; her dear friend, Helen Riggs; as well as many friends. Le-pha was a hard working homemaker and mother of 9 children, 5 daughters and 4 sons. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Sylvester L. "Tim" Hawkins in 1979; 1 daughter, Myrle Edith Parker in 1990. Surviving are 4 daughters, Ethel Beratta of Mason; Leona (Robert) Wilhelm of Marshall; Barbara (Gerald) Mick, and Linda (Terry) Foote all of Leslie; 4 sons, Sylvester H. Hawkins, Wal- ter Bruce Hawkins, Dennis James Hawkins, and David E.L.

Hawkins; 1 son-in-law, Harold Parker, all of Mason; 29 grandchildren; 51 greatgrandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; 1 sister, Gladys King of Vermontville; 1 sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. Grand Rapids, MI 49508. BARDEN, DOROTHY DURST Haslett Dorothy Barden passed away May 30, 1994 at the age of 61 in her Haslett residence after a courageous battle with cancer. She graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1951 and from the University of -Michigan in 1955. She was a self-employed graphic artist in the Lansing area for the past 37 years, receiving numerous artistic achievement awards and recognition. She was preceded in death by 2 infant sons; husband, Gerald L.

Bar- den; herf parents; Dorothy and Clyne W. DursCSr. in 1992; and brother, John (Jack) Durst in 1992. She was a dear and loving mother to her 2 sons, Christopher (Kim) Barden of Lansing, and Knight Barden of Haslett; and a caring grandmother to her dear grandson, Anthony. She will be deeply missed by her family, brother, Clyne (Ted) W.

Durst Jr, (Joanne) of Adrian; and sisters, Mary Jane Seigo of Eagle and Patricia Nieman of East Lansing; as well as many caring nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a private memorial is planned for a later date. The fam-v ily would like to extend our thanks to Lansing Hospice and especially Bev' for her compassion and support through this most difficult time. STURGIS, BEATRICE K. She was a retired Secretary for the State of Michigan; a member of the Capitol Area Sportsmans League Ladies Auxiliary, Appleton Ladies Aide ciety, and was an avid bridge player. She attended the Delta Mills United Methodist Church in her youth, and was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Dennis; 2 daughters, Mrs. Richard (Mary Alice) Holtz of Grand Ledge, Mrs. John (Nancy Lee) Ratiu of Harrison; 1 son, Dennis Sturgis of Potterville; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Ronald Daman of Delta Mills, Fred (Marguerite) Daman of Grand Ledge; 2 sisters, Dorothy Allen of Grand Ledge, Mrs.

Howard (Ethel) Waldie of Yuma, AZ. She was pre-'-ceded in death by 3 brothers, Harry, John and Robert Daman; and 1 sister, Helen Peterson. He was born in Ann Arbor on October 27, 1938 and had been a lifelong resident of Lansing. Mr. Temple was a graduate of J.W. Sexton High School, and attended Lansing Community College. Surviving are 3 sisters, Shirley Bigelow of East Lansing, Sharon Quimby and Franice Arnold, both of Lansing; "several nieces and nephews.
