Irwin and Alfred M. Worden, have been reprimanded for carrying 400 unauthorized postal covers to the moon and back last July and then turning 100 of them over to an acquaintance in West Germany. They had been authorized to take 232 envelopes with them as souvenirs, but they took the additional 400, planning to sell 100 to establish a trust fund for their families. The 100 moon-stamped envelopes were sold to stamp collectors for $1,500 each through a German dealer, but the astronauts had second thoughts about the whole undertaking and refused the money. NASA's official censure said that they exercised poor judgment in their action.
