1 -S DETROIT (AP) The first 1972 batch of six million salmon has been released in Michigan Great Lakes waters by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). A spokesman for the DNR reported Tuesday that the first allotments have been turned loose in the St. Joseph, Grand and Kalamazoo rivers, flowing into southern Lake Michigan. lie said a total of six million will be released before the end of May. The spokesman added that this year's planting plans call for a reduction in coho salmon releases in Lakes Huron and Superior, permitting emphasis on Lake Michigan, where releases have fared best.

He said Lake Superior will get more chinook salmon and Lake Huron will get addition-al splake, steelhead and brown trout. Coho releases in Lake Michigan will total 2.5 million, and chinook will total nearly two million, about the same number as last year. Lake Huron coho releases will drop to about 380,000 coho, compared to 1.2 million last year, and chinook will be cut back to 600,000 from The DNR said coho releases in Lake Superior will decline to 160,000 this spring, down from last year's 430,000. But chinook releases in the lake will be increased to this year, compared to 250,000 in 1971. The DNR said the heaviest salmon releases are planned for the Lake Michigan "pay zones" where concentrator have been greatest and fishermen have had best success.
