Blankenship Sterling A. Blankenship, 86, of 35 Golden died Thursday, "May 30, 1991, in Battle Creek Health SystemCommunity Site 'where he had been a patient since ay 21. He had been in failing "health three years.

Mr. Blankenship was born Divorces "March 30, 1905, in Clermont, to Capt. Cain and DiUie Blankenship. He spent his early life in Dresden, and lived in Florida before moving to Lan Sterling A. Blankenship brother, Jack Hess, and a sister, Virginia Green.

Surviving are sons, Gordon Hess of Hastings and Donald Hess of Phoenix, daughters, Ken-dra Williams-Green of Phoenix and Mary Houghtalin of Hastings; several grandchildren and greatgrandchildren; and a brother, William Hess. Richard T. Morgan II EATON RAPIDS Richard T. Morgan II, 45, of Eaton Rapids, died Wednesday, May 29, 199 1, in the Eaton Rapids Community Hospital. He had been ill two years. Mr.

Morgan was born in Toledo, Ohio, to David K. and Rachael Morgan. He had been employed as a salesman. Surviving are daughters, Deanne Morgan of Lansing and Valerie and Nicole Morgan, both of Eaton Rapids; sons, Dion and Chawn Morgan, both Eaton Rapids; sisters, Nancy Tyler of Lake Odessa and Rachael Mainor of Dalton, and his fiance, Shirley Ellis of Eaton Rapids. Funeral: 1:30 p.m.

today at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Dennis L. Perkins and Pastor Will Farrier officiating. Burial: Woodland Cemetery. Marjorie Parsons Marjorie Parsons, 85, a former Battle Creek resident and longtime federal government employee, pital, Blue Island, 111. Mr.

Thornton was born Oct. 5, 1913, in Pullman, Wash. He was raised in Ann Arbor and received bachelor's and master's degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan. While in school, he was a member of the R.O.T.C. Upon graduation, Mr.

Thornton went to work for the E.I. DuPont De Nemours Co. Called to active duty with the Army in December 1940, he served in this country and in India until 1946. After his return, he joined the Sherman Williams Co. He was given a leave to resume military duty during the Korean conflict, then remained on reserve status as lieutenant colonel with the Army.

He retired from Sherman Williams in 1978 as a technical specialist. He also had worked for the company as an environmental consultant. He participated in nature conservancy programs and organizations which worked on new techniques to reduce pollution and improve waste management. He was active in various veterans groups, especially the Chicago branch of the China Burma India Veterans, of which he was treasurer at the time of his death. Last year, he was honored as a 50-year member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

He married the former Jessie Martha White on Nov. 19, 1938. Surviving are his wife; a son, Jesse Francis Thornton of Oak Lawn, one grandson; and sisters, Frances Stutzman of Wilmette, and Iona Eggleston of Dear-field Beach, Fla. Visitation: 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Spencer Funeral Home.

Funeral: 1 1:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jack Eitelbuss officiating. Burial: Sherwood Cemetery. Memorial donations: Charity of one's choice.

Pratt HOMER Irene M. (Schrader) Pratt, 73, of Homer, died Wednesday, May 29, 1991, in the Arbor Manor, Spring Arbor. She had been ill two years. Mrs. Pratt was born July 17, 1 9 1 7, in Wayne County to Charles and Selma Schrader.

Before corning to Homer in the 1970s, she worked as a food service supervisor with the Novi Schools for 19 years. She married Bayne W. Pratt in Wayne County. Surviving are her husband; sons, William Pratt of South Lyon and Robert Pratt of Homer, a daughter, Bonnie Janis of Pinckney; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brothers, Walter Schroder of California and Ralph Schrader of Wayne. Funeral: Services were this morning at the Homer Chapel of the Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels.

Burial: Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi. Memorial donations: American Cancer Society. Tressa V. Prill Tressa V. (Morse) Hombaker Prill, 92, of 231 Springview Drive, died Wednesday, May 29, 1991 in Battle Creek Health SystemCommunity Site after a brief illness.

Mrs. Prill was born March 15, 1899, in Brinton and she came to Battle Creek in 1936 from Co-loma. She had lived in California and Texas for 10 years, returning to Battle Creek in November. Many years ago, she was employed by the Post Division of General Foods Corp. and Clark Equipment Co.

Since 1956, she had been a homemaker. Mrs. Prill was a member of the Bryant Chapter 153 Order of the Eastern Star and First Congregational Church. In California, she had volunteered with the Lions Club Eyesight Program. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harold Hombaker in 1952 and E. Harry Prill in 1976, and sons, Harold Hombaker, in 1921, and Arley R. Hombaker, in 1984. Surviving are a daughter, Dolores Woods Buck of Mission, Texas; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and seven great-greatgrandchildren. Visitation: 1 to 3 p.m.

Gatewood COLDWATER Florence B. "Flossie" (Donakowski) Elliott Gatewood, 75, formerly of 30 W. Park died Wednesday, May 29, 1991, in the Carriage Inn Convalescence Center. She had been ill two years. Mrs.

Gatewood was born Sept. 24, 1915, in Alpena to Angus and Josephine Ann Donakowski. She lived most of her life in the Coldwater area and was active in the foster grandparent program. Mrs. Gatewood was a member of St.

Charles Catholic Church. Her first husband, Garel D. Elliott, died in 1973. Surviving are a son, Roger Elliott of Coldwater, daughters, Sharon Swick of Montgomery and Connie Esterline of Coldwater; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchil-dren; a sister, Helen Dubey of Alpena; and a brother, John Donakowski of Alpena. Visitation: None.

Funeral: Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater with the Rev. James P. O'Leary officiating. Memorial donations: American Cancer Society.

Arrangements: Putnam Funeral Home. Wendell W. Griffin CHARLOTTE Wendell W. "Ben" Griffin, 76, of Charlotte, died Thursday, May 30, 1991, in the Eaton County Medical Care Facility. Mr.

Griffin was bora in Eaton County, the son of Merton E. and Maude Griffin. He was a lifelong resident of Eaton County and was a truck driver for the Oldsmobile Division of General Motors for 37 years before retiring. Surviving are his wife, Frances; daughters, Carol Ann Davids of Leslie, Jolene Frances Bahr of Duck Lake and Wendy Kay Brown of Pinconning; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. James A. Haskins Jr. James A. Haskins 67, of 175 Roseneath died Wednesday, May 29, 1991, in Battle Creek Health SystemLeila Site after a brief illness. Mr.

Haskins was born March 3, 1924, in Detroit. He served with the Army during World War II. He lived in Marianna, before coming to Battle Creek in 1973. In Marianna he worked as a school bus driver and mechanic and also owned the Pilgrim Grocery Store. In addition, he was a licensed contractor in Arkansas and Michigan.

He was a member of the Eferd Lynn Chapter 7 of the Disabled American Veterans and the Masons in the Detroit area. He enjoyed fishing and was a volunteer with Boy Scouts of America. He married the former Lula Mae Smith on Feb. 20, 1947. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Gladys Bradley and Mildred Delores Haskins, both of Battle Creek, and Joy Curtis of Detroit; a son, James Andrew Haskins III of Ypsilanti; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Royal Funeral Home. Funeral: Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial donations: Charity of one's choice.

Charles E. Hess NASHVILLE Charles E. Hess, 68, of Nashville, died Wednesday, May 29, 1991, in the Battle Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a long illness. Mr. Hess was born Jan.

4, 1923, in Homer to Donald and Thressa Hess. He was a lifelong resident of Nashville and attended Nashville Schools. He served with the Army during World War U. Mr. Hess worked for several Hastings area car dealers before joining the Chenoweth Machine Co.

in Hastings. He was a former member of the Hastings American Legion and Nashville VFW Post 8260. He was married to the former Gail Foster. Mr. Blankenship worked for "Riekerd Lumber Co. in Lansing. He was employed by Michigan Woodwork and Specialties Co. from 1940 until retiring in 1970 as mill superintendent.

He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church where he had been deacon and held other offices. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed all sports. In the 1920s, he tried out for the old Philadelphia Phillies baseball team. He was preceded in death by wives, the former L. Ruth Nichols, in 1977, and the former Alma N.

Rogers) Raulston in 1979, and his parents. A daughter, Patricia K. Barker, died in 1972. He married the former Thela M. (Tyson) Tutewiler on July 27, 1981.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Ronald C. Blankenship of 62 Meadow Drive; stepchildren, Joan R. Gryczka of 508 Jean Lane and Ronald H. Tutewiler of Crooked Lake, Delton; five grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandchild; and a brother, Homer Blankenship of Dowling Park, Fla. Dyer COLDWATER Betty Irene (Snyder) Dyer, 52, of 543 Marshall Road, died Wednesday, May 29, 1 99 1 in Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, where she had been a patient 10 days.

Mrs. Dyer was born March 2, 1939, in Coldwater to George and Jane Snyder. She came to Coldwater nine years ago from Fitchburg. Surviving are her mother, Jane Gonzales of Coldwater, sons, Tony Pyer of Montgomery, Douglas and Joseph Dyer, both of Litchfield, and Marvin Dyer of Coldwater, daughters, Theresa Salisbury of Jackson, Vickie Jordan of Stock-bridge and Cindy Brown and Shelly Dyer, both of Coldwater, 12 grandchildren; a brother, David Gonzales of Coldwater, and a sister, Georgia Ash of Coldwater. A son, Carl Dyer, died in 1987.

Julius Frey HASTINGS Julius Frey, 91, of 3506 Lawrence Road, a longtime Banfield area farmer, died Wednesday, May 29, 1991 in Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo. He had been a patient at the Golden Moments Nursing Home for five years and previously lived at 800 Bristol Road, Banfield. Mr. Frey was bom June 3, 1 899, in Bedford to Charles and Louise Frey. He fanned most of his adult life in the Banfield area and was a longtime member of the Barry County Farm Bureau.

Mr. Frey married the former Ruth Babcock in November 1922. She died in 1962. He also was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and six brothers. Surviving are sons, Lloyd D.

21, 1905, in Battle Creek and was a 1 924 Battle Creek Central High School graduate. She worked 34 years for the government, first at veterans' hospitals in Dearborn, Danville, 111., and Los Angeles, and then here. She worked at the Battle Creek Federal Center before being hired by patent attorney Roy Plant. She retired in 1971 as a medical secretary from Battle Creek Sanitarium Hospital. She was active in Trinity United Methodist Church and its Elizabeth Circle, Loyal Workers Class and United Methodist Women, for which she was treasurer from 1972 to 1986.

Miss Parsons enjoyed ceramics, china painting, gardening, bird watching and painting. She received the UMW "special lady" award in' 1979. She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Parsons, in 1989. Surviving are a brother, Max Parsons of Battle Creek; nieces, Judi Nantz of Grand Rapids, Anne Perry of Battle Creek, Bee Parsons of Santa Ana, Kay Colby of Grand Rapids and Mar-lene Scarlett of Kalamazoo; nephews, Eugene D.
