AREA School spelling bee winners named There are eight winners in the annual Brian Hufnagel Memorial Spelling Bee at Immaculate Heart of MarySt Casimir School of Lansing. The spelling bee, held in conjunction with Catholic Schools Week, is in memory of a former student who was killed in an accident Each class held its own contest Andy Houghtaling will represent the school in an area schools competition. Other school winners include Tam Anh Tran, Daniel Ryan, Jeannie Smith, Steven Skow-ronek, Christopher Pugsley, Kelly Martin and Leslie Krauss. He was a member and past Commander of the Oldsmo-bile American Legion Post 237 and was past 6th District Commander. Surviving are his wife, Patricia; children, Susan Perkins of Lansing, Patrice Wulf of Chicago, Kathy Kimbrel of Kalamazoo, Anne Hollenbeck of Muskegon, Margaret Perkins and Elizabeth Khauv, both of Grand Ledge, Donald Michael Perkins and Jo Ellen Perkins, both of Kalamazoo, Karen Daniel and Stephanie Perkins, all of Grand Ledge; 8 grandchildren; sisters, Juanita Dieterle of Ann Arbor and Audrey Lough-miller of Oregon. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St.

Tuesday. WIEGAND, KAREN Okemos Age 24, died February 7, 1993. Miss Wiegand was born August 26, 1968 in Hartford, CT. She was a 1992 honors graduate of Michigan State University, a co-founder of MSU Student Cancer Support Network and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. She was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and the Psi Chi, National Honor Society in Psychology.

Surviving are her parents, Walter and Carole Wiegand and brother, Kurt Wiegand of Glastonbury, CT; great grandmother, Signe Stewart; grandmothers, Irene Baldwin and Ella Wiegand; several aunts, uncles and cousins and many dear friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 10 at 11 a.m. in the MSU Alumni Memorial Chapel, Auditorium Road, East Lansing. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. East Chapel, East Lansing Tuesday 6:9 p.m.

RIDER, HELEN I. Lansing Age 89, passed away on February 7, 1993. She was born on March 29, 1903 in Delhi Township, MI, and had been a resident of Lansing most of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lansing; active in the Young At Heart Group at church; and was employed with Oldsmo-bile for 40 years as a Secretary in Purchasing, retiring in 1968; and was formerly active in the Chapter B.Z.P.E.O.

Surviving are 2 nephews, Malcolm J. Rider and Patterson N. (Marilyn) Rider, both of Lansing; niece, Marylyn (Richard) Shadduck of Newaygo, MI and Florida; 6 grand-nieces and nephews. Religious services will be conducted by the Rev. Robley Clausen of First Baptist Church of Lansing at 2:30 p.m.

Thursday, February 11, 1993 in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday. Rider. RHODES, HARRY E. Webberville Age 85, died Monday February 8, 1993. Born June 10, 1907 in Union City, MI the son of Albert and Mary (Newman) Rhodes; he resided most of his life in Union City. His life work was in refrigeration and as an Electrician; he was a member of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society and Michigan Steam Engine Threshers Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Covey) in 1989. Surviving are 1 daughter, Mrs. Mary (Terry) Rayman of DeWitt; 4 sons, Harry Jr. (Patricia) of Okemos, Charles (Marie) and John (Becky), both of Webberville, and Mike Rhodes of Colorado; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; mother-in-law. Amber Covey of Union City.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, at St. Mary Church, Williamston, with Fr. Dan McKean officiating. Burial in Belle Oak Cemetery.

The body will rest at Nelson-House Funeral Homes, LaRowe Chapel, Perry, on Tuesday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Memorials suggested to Michigan Steam Engine Threshers Club. HEETHUIS, LEONA K. Lansing Formerly of Muskegon Mrs. Heethuis, age 82, died Sunday, February 7, 1993.

She was born Leona Hartley in Chicago on April 23, 1910; married Gerrit Heethuis in Muskegon on October 4, 1934, and he preceded her in death on March 27, 1991. Until her retirement in 1970, she had worked as a Secretary at E.H. Sheldon Co. Mrs. Heethuis was a member of Berean Church.

Surviving are 1 son, Gerald (Scarlett) Heethuis of Lansing; 7 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; and 1 sister, Mrs. Wilma Rothoff of Muskegon. Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, at Clock Funeral Home in Muskegon, with the Rev. Wayne Bickel and the Rev.

Dwight Reed officiating. Interment at Oak-wood Cemetery. The family visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today at the Funeral Home. Memorials to the Building Fund of Berean Church.

OAKWOOD, GRACE K. Grand Ledge Mrs. Oakwood, age 75, passed away February 6, 1993 at her residence. She was a member of the Grand Ledge First United Methodist Church; the United Methodist Women; and a retired employee of the Michigan State Seed Co. of Grand Ledge.

Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas (Jane) of Valparaiso, IN and James (Jean) of St. Johns; 4 grandchildren, Deborah, Brian and Christina Oakwood and Mrs. Laura Thelen; 2 sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Schweinler of Lake Geneva, WI and Dorothy Cox of Marinette, WI; several nieces and nephews. at the Peters Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge SCHERER, EVEA M. Grand Ledge Mrs. Scherer, age 87, passed away February 7, 1993 in Argentine Genesee County. She was a member of the Grand Ledge Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for several years, and was a life time resident of Grand Ledge. Survivors include 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Mary (Richard) Hutchins of Fowlerville, Ardine Robben-nolt of Lansing, Joyce (George) Schlemner of Lake George and Barbara Abbott of Harrison; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, George Beamish of Lake, MI, Richard EHMKE, GARY A.

Lansing Born April 28, 1953 in Milwaukee, WI; died February 7, 1993 at the age of 39. A resident of Lansing for 8 years; Mr. Ehmke was attending L.C.C. and was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, singing in the choir and serving on the Council. Surviving are 1 son, Paul parents, Herschel and Eleanor Ehmke of Port St Lucie, FL; 2 brothers, Daniel (Wendy) and Alan Ehmke, both of Ft.

Lauderdale, FL; 1 sister, Jacalyn (Frans) Jansen of Atlanta, GA; maternal grandmother, Erna Gasch of Colby, WI;.
