1 4 Illinois within one i victory of claiming at least share of Big Ten Associated Press COLUMBUS, Ohio Kurt Kittner led No. 12 Illinois to a comeback victory for the fourth game in a row as the Dlini beat No. 25 Ohio State 34-22 to remain in the hunt for their first Big Ten title since 1990. Illinois (6-1, 9-1), which won its sixth in a row since losing to Michigan, can i clinch at least a share of the conference title with a victory at home next week against Northwestern. Ohio State (4-3, 6-4), which needed to win its last two games to do no worse than tie for the title, lost in its first game in almost three seasons "without Steve Bellisari at quarterback.

Bellisari "was suspended indefinitely Friday after his arrest on two counts of drunken driving. Kittner completed 18 of 28 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. He had led the Dlini back from early deficits in victories over Wisconsin, Purdue and Perm State in their last three games. Kittner was 4-of-6 for 51 yards in an 80-yard drive that ended with Carey Davis' 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter that gave Illinois the lead for good at 27-22. It wasn't all Kittner, however.

The mini picked up important points on defense and special teams. They opened the scoring just one' 'minute into the game when Dwayne Smith blocked Andy Groom's punt and Jamaal Clark picked it up for a 2-yard touchdown return. Ohio State, with Scott McMullen and Craig Krenzel combining to go 15-of-36 passing for 206 yards and two touchdowns with two intercep- tions, still trailed 27-22 after taking i over on a downed punt at its own 2 with 5:23 left. On first down, however, Krenzel Big Ten standings Michigan 6 18 2 Illinois 6 1 9 1 Purdue 4 3 6 3 Ohio St. 4 3 6 4 Iowa 4 4 6 4 Michigan St.

Krenzel's pass into the right flat for Michael Jenkins was picked off by linebacker Ty Myers, who returned it 5 yards and dived into the end zone for the insurance touchdown. Bellisari was arrested early Friday morning on two counts of drunken driving and two minor traffic violations. As the Buckeyes' starting quarterback the last 31 games, Ohio State was 19-12.

Penn State 28, Indiana 14 STATE COLLEGE, Pa. Larry Johnson ran for two touchdowns and scored on a shovel pass as Penn State kept its bowl hopes alive with a victory over Indiana. The Nittany Lions (3-4 Big Ten, 4-5) still need to win at Michigan State next week and at Virginia on Dec. 1 to qualify for a bowl game. Johnson's third TD came on the shovel pass early in the fourth quarter.

He ran for 54 yards on seven carries. Matt Senneca, starting at quarterback for the Nittany Lions for the first time since Oct. 27, completed 17 of 23 passes for 278 yards. The Hoosiers (3-4, 3-6) got to the Penn State 11 midway through the fourth quarter, but Antwaan Randle El was stopped on a fourth-and-9. Iowa 42, Minnesota 24 IOWA CITY, Iowa Kyle Mc-Cann threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score as Iowa got the sixth victory it needed to become eligible for a bowl in beating Minnesota.

Iowa (4-4, 6-4) executed almost perfectly on offense, jumping to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and finishing with 473 total yards. Ladell Betts ran for 171 yards on 28 carries, and McCann and Brad Banks completed their first 10 passes. Minnesota (1-6, 3-7) moved the ball well enough to compile 475 yards. But the Gophers didn't score a touchdown until Iowa had a 28-3 lead and couldn't overcome their defensive shortcomings, illustrated on McCann's 40-yard completion to tight end Dallas Clark in the third quarter. Bowling Green 43, Northwestern 42 EVANSTON, 111.

Josh Harris hit Robert Redd on a 5-yard touchdown pass with 36 seconds left and Cole Magner ran for a 2-point conversion as Bowling Green stunned Northwestern. The Falcons (7-3) trailed by two touchdowns with 3:44 left before pulling off one the MAC school's greatest victories behind the play of Harris. Harris passed for 402 yards and three touchdowns, ran for two TDs his 3-yarder with 2:30 left got Bowling Green to 42-35 and also caught a scoring pass. Northwestern's Zak Kustok threw for three TDS and ran for two others, but threw a last-second interception in his final home game as Northwestern fell to 4-6 and out of bowl contention.
