The fitness industry is no exception. The editors of Fitness Management approached several experts in the field of fitness and asked them what they saw as up and coming trends. Here are some of the trends that already can be found in the Battle Creek area: Walking will continue to grow in the 1990s. Nutrition will continue to be of concern, especially among the aging population. Family fitness will grow in popularity.

More and more emphasis will be placed on the entire family being involved in fitness. With this concept in mind, children's fitness programs will be a trend of the future. Acquatic exercise will grow in three ares: rehabilitation of injuries, aerobics for overweight participants or participants with arthritis, and water resistance training to build muscle strength. Strength training will continue to grow, especially for the over-40 age group. Staff trainingcertification will be one of the most important reasons for choosing a health club. Women will continue to broaden the types of exercise they participate in. There will be more women weight training, cross training and participating in sports. As I read about the upcoming trends in the fitness industry, it was encouraging to see that in many cases these trends are already taking place here in Battle Creek.
