Election, From 3A achieve and are at risk for not earning a high school diploma. Finances are not an exciting issue, but we need to continue to be wise with our money. We need to continue to seek grants and joint efforts." Priority: "Over the last three years we have undergone major changes in our administration, our staffing, our board and now the configuration of our elementary grades. I believe we have faced our challenges and made the big decisions we have had to make. As a board member I would work with the rest of the district to support a renewed focus on learning in each school and in each classroom as we adjust to our new structure." RODNEY FERGUSON Age: 39 Personal: Married to Susan for 10 years and has two chil-.

I will work with other board members to ensure that our children get a quality education from preschool through high school, so that they are well prepared for college and the work place." Issues: "Our district, like many others, has been hit with tight finances. As director of the City of Albion's Recreation Department I have had to deal with budget constraints head-on and understand how to get the most you can with limited resources." Priority: "If I have an agenda, it would be to help our students be as successful as possible; help the board of education, administration, teachers and staff get the most value for the funding we have as well as finding new and creative ways to bring in more funding, for instance from grants; and to promote the Albion Public Schools in a positive way because they mold our community's most valuable human resource our children." Has spent most of the last 12 years helping organizations improve their performance by coaching and training people. Platform: "I do not see consistent, strong expectations of performance and a system of accountability driving improvement within the school system. I want to see the school improve the quality of education our kids receive. To do this the school system needs strong leadership, direction and accountability. This needs to be driven down from the top." Issues: "The two most serious and immediate issues facing the school system in my opinion are the willingness to accept mediocrity and ensuring we reap the benefits of the school reconfiguration." Priority: "To deal with all these challenges requires strong educational leadership.

This means the qualities of integrity, courage, strength, a sense of service, a belief in people, excellent judgment and the ability to learn themselves. These are the standards I will be holding myself and the superintendent accountable to. I would expect her to push these through the administration." KIRK LEE Age: 46. Kellogg Middle School and Battle Creek Central High School. Was Parent Teacher Association president for two years for the Battle Creek School District PTA Council. Involved in HOSTS (Helping One Student to Succeed), Junior Achievement and the Sojourner Truth Dedication Committee. Platform: "I have chosen to run for this position because I strongly believe that all children should receive a quality education. In order for this to be possible, students must have positive role models as leaders and educators who believe in them.

I believe that we must put children first by building bridges together and closing gaps to improve education. It is important to bring parents, edu-cators and the community together to build these bridges for a better education system." Issues: "For about the last 10 years we have seen enrollment decline for various reasons. In regards to academic achievement we have recently seen that the MEAP scores are being challenged. The District is accountable for each student's proficiency in academics and the improvement of MEAP scores. It is important that state requirements are being met.

Also, with recent changes in legislature such as the 'No Child Left Behind this becomes a major concern to the district due to facing budget constraints already. We have seen budget dollars continually decrease while district costs increase, due to cutbacks in funding." Priority: "I would like to better understand what major challenges have caused enrollment to decline and what can be done to improve academic achievement. I feel bringing together the parents the board and the staff will help to remove any barriers or obstacles in order to implement plans and make improvements where needed. It is important that we do whatever it takes to build a district that students want to be a part of and that parents want their children to be a part of as well." JACKIE BRAMAN Age: 41. Currently chairwoman for Neighborhood Planning Council No.

4 in Battle Creek and a mini-grant committee member for Yes We Can! Platform: "I decided a couple of years ago with all my PTA involvement and booster club involvement I wanted to be more involved in setting policy." Issues: "Parent involvement is a huge task. Battle Creek Public Schools does a good job but there needs to be some policy in place if we want to move.
