Catherine Sliwinski visibly shook as she testified Thursday about the Duvall concept of family in the murder trial of Raymond Jr. "J.R." Duvall, 52, of South Branch and Donald "Coco" Duvall, 51, of Monroe.

The brothers are charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of two hunters Brian Ognjan and David Tyll. The lifelong friends disappeared while on a northern Michigan trip on Nov. 22, 1905. lneir bodies and vehicle, a black Ford Bronco, were never recovered. Struggling to the witness stand with the assistance of a cane, Sliwinski told the court she dated Tom Duvall, Raymond Duvall's son, from 1994 to 1997.

In the fall of 1996, the couple was living at Raymond Duvall's Hale residence, and during one particular argument between Sliwinski and Tom Duvall, she told him she wanted to leave the relationship. Tom Duvall turned to his father and told him to explain what happened to the hunters, Sliwinski testified. "J.R. looked at me and explained how he got into an argument with some hunters over a deer out in the woods," She said. "He said they met up with them later at the bar and they had another altercation.

They went outside into the parking lot, and J.R. said they beat them. "He said their heads smashed open like melons. Then they chopped up the bodies, fed them to the pigs and got rid of the rest.
