The fund stood at approximately $6,000, but only a handful of workers had reported to cancer head' quarters, 510 N. Washington on the results of their individual solicitation.

Washington ave, FCC Allots TV Channels Lansing, East Lansing Get Go-Ahead Signal for UHF Stations The door was.

left open for a Michigan State college television station as the federal communica tions commission allotted two new ultra high frequency channels to Lansing and East Lansing. In an announcement Monday, the FCC said Lansing and East Lansing would get channels 54 and 60 respectively. In addition, very high frequency channel 6 was re-allotted to Lansing. It is now held WJIM-TV. Michigan State college officials said Monday they would apply immediately for FCC permission to build a television transmitter for channel 60.

The license is not granted to the station until the transmitter has been built and ap-j proved by the FCC. The V. H. F. stations will present a conversion problem to most television set owners in Lansing.

The FCC estimated that it will 'cost from $10 to $30 for conver-' sion units for present sets. The FCC said that 70 channels have been allotted to Michigan and that seven of them are restricted for educational use only. The East Lansing channel, however, is not so restricted. Michigan State college, for the 'past two years, has been fully equipped to produce television shows except for the actual transmitter. The college has cameras, lights, control equipment, studios and a considerable amount of coaxial cable laid around the campus.

Hannah, the college president, said Mondav. Final passage of the legislature's 1952-53 budget Friday night left the college without sufficient funds to maintain the present op eration level, ne said.

The president blamed declining enrollment, increasing material and personnel costs and a pay raise granted employes last Jan uary for jumping costs over the legislative allotment. The college was granted Sll.194.' 982 for the operation expenses of the coming year. The figure rep' resents an increase of $1,320,000 over the 1951-52 appropriation but did not cover the increase in costs, Hannah said. Two hundred twen ty-five thousand dollars of this money Is earmarked for rehabil itating several old buildings on the campus. Expenses will be sheared by sim ply failing to fill staff vacancies as they arise, the president said, and additional revenue will be taken from increased student enrollment fees.
