$4.50 scrubbed the spilled soda and squashed Halloween candy off the floor in your room, you may have your toys back. Year 13: Just keep your door closed when we have company. And don't blame me about the ants. Year 15: Hello, Merry Maids? SNAP worker Carmita Jones is originally from Chicago where there are parades for almost every holiday. "I'm not a football watcher, so we watch the parades," she said.

"Being from Chicago, we had the Thanksgiving, Christmas and the Budbilken Parade, a back to school parade. That's the one I think my daughter remembers the most," Jones said. Jones' daughter Sarah is almost 3 years old and said she does like Santa, but has other favorites, too. "I like the ladybugs," Sarah said. "I want to be a ladybug or a butterfly." Wells said parades have had to change to keep pace with all the technology children are growing up with.

Floats and balloons aren't enough to keep today's children interested. Because of this, even Santa and his sleigh have been modernized. "Santa will have a Santa Cam hooked on his sleigh, so throughout the parade, people will be able to see Santa's view," Wells said. "His sleigh will be 70-feet long with beautiful bouncing reindeer, and Santa will be able to talk to all the kids through his microphone." In the Marshall parade, Santa may not arrive in a 70-foot float, but Lake is confident the "big guy" will make an appearance he hasn't missed one since the parade's inception over 30 years ago. "It's a big deal here," Lake said.

"One of our very special things is when Santa is on his float to end the parade." Wells agrees with Lake that regardless of how many bands march, balloons soar or floats travel down Detroit's busy Woodward Avenue, Santa's appearance is still the number one attraction. "I don't think that will every change," Wells said. "This is Santa's debut and even with all the animation and technology, he'll always be the number one man." ANIMATED THE RUGRATS IN PARIS Parade, From ID jThis year's 74th America's Thanksgiving Parade is on at 9 p.m. today, the same time as Macy's, and covers parades in Detroit, New York, Hawaii and Nashville, Tenn. I Jennifer Wells director of communications of The Parade Company in Detroit said even though she has been working since last Thanksgiving on this year's Detroit holiday parade, she never gets tired 0f watching it.

"Parades bring families together," jWells said. "In my job on parade clay, I get to go up and down the parade route and see all these families huddled together, drinking their hot chocolate. It just makes everything worthwhile. Parades are a time tested tradition." Of course, the real experts are kids. 1 manage where Tinker Toys and Silly Putty have been replaced by PlayStation2 and robotic dogs, kids fetill enjoy going to local parades.

At home on holidays, kids say they enjoy the tradition of sitting around the TV watching parades with their families while scents of turkey, homemade rolls and pumpkin pie fill the house. 1 Quinton McDougall, age 5, son of Michelle Michela and Dale McDougall, said he's an expert because he's watched parades with his grandma for a "long time." "I've been watching them since I was 3," Quinton said. "My favorite is Santa Claus. He lives in a far away town he gives me candy, and I tell him what I want And I like the silly people driving the silly cars." Lauren Washington, age 3, agrees Santa Claus is 'da "He has white hair on his chin and he's fat," Lauren said. "I watch Santa he gives me candy at the store." Washington also said she likes the music, especially the song she was dancing and humming to while waiting for quiet time to begin at the SNAP Preschool at 80 E.
