Kirobel of Grand Rapids, president of the Michigan Federation of Humane Societies, will preside over the fifth annual meeting of the federation to be held Saturday at the Hotel Olds. Societies from 10 Michigan cities will be represented at the directors' meeting which is being planned for 11 o'clock Saturday morning. A 12:30 o'clock luncheon will be followed by a program at 1:30 o'clock. Anyone interested in the activities of the society is invited to attend the luncheon and program, or the program alone. Knapp opened her home on Cambridge road Monday afternoon for a meeting of the Lansing branch of the Women's National Farm and Garden association which was attended by about 70 members and guests.

The house was artistic with autumn floral displays. E. A. Sackrider, of the United States department of agriculture, spoke on "Proper Use of Our Land." describing the government's fight against soil erosion. He said that his department is co-operating with the farmer and with Michigan State college in teaching people to put their land to proper use.

About 100,000.000 acres have been destroyed because of the loss of top soil through erosion, he said. He pointed to England as an outstanding example of a country which uses its agricultural resources. In closing he gave the slogan of his department, "A proper use for every acre: every acre In its proper use." Reports of a recent trip to the Kellogg bird sanctuary at Kalamazoo and the regional meeting at Jackson were given by Mrs. B. A.

Health Workers To Hear Educator Through the co-operation of the Michigan Public Health asiociation, the Maternal Health league of Michigan is presenting Dr. Haven Emerson, professor of public health administration at Columbia university, at an important session of the public health conference Wednesday.

Thursday, and Friday, at the Hotel Olds. Doctor Emerson will speak Thursday at 2 o'clock on "Education in Maternity Essential to Public Health." Dance Party Held Virgiline Simmons Dancing school held its first party of the season for the junior ballroom classes Saturday evening in the studio.
