For 65 years, Mr. Parichy operated Parichy Roofing and Shingle Co. He built Parichy Stadium at Harlem Avenue and Harrison Street in Forest Park in 1934 and took over sponsorship of the then-amateur Bloomer Girls fast-pitch softball team in 1937. He and Bidwill, former owner of the Chicago football Cardinals, started the National Girls Baseball League in 1945. The league had six professional teams, the Bloomer Girls, the Blue Birds, By Jerry Crimmins Emery A.

Parichy, 92, buiit Parichy Stadium, a Softball palace formerly in Forest Park, sponsored the Bloomer Girls team and started the National Girls Baseball League with Charles Bidwill in 1945. Mr. Parichy died Friday in Wcstlake Pavilion, Franklin Park. Mr. Parichy in 1934 established the first museum of baseball, the Forest Park Museum, to house baseball records, books, pictures, equipment and mementos, according to the booklet "Major First Events in a Century of Baseball," published in 1940.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooper-stown, N.Y., began in 1939. Born in Trenton, N.J., Mr. Parichy went to work at age 9, never played baseball and never got past the 4th grade, said his son, Jerry. Almanac In 1935 Amelia Earhart took off from Honolulu en route to becoming the first woman to make a solo flight across the Pacific Ocean. On Jan.

1 1, 1757, Alexander Hamilton, the first secretary of the Treasury, was born in the West Indies. In 1913 patrons of the National Automobile Show in New York saw a new type of luxury car, the four-door sedan. It was a Hudson. In 1923 French and Belgian troops occupied the Ruhr Valley when Germany failed to keep up with its World War I reparation payments. In 1962 an avalanche buried an Andes village in Peru, leaving an estimated 3,000 people dead.

In 1964 the U.S. surgeon general, Dr. Luther Terry, issued the first government report saying that smoking may be hazardous to one's health. In 1982 Chicago's schools were closed in the wake of the record-breaking 26-de-grees-below-zero temperature the day before. At 1 1 a.m.

Lee S. Harnngton, 76, pastor of Des Plaines Church of God, died Thursday at his home in that city. Before moving to the Des Plaines church, Rev. Harrington founded the Berwyn Cicero Assembly of God in the early 1950s and the Oak Park Church of God. Born in Kentucky, he grew up in southern Illinois.

Survivors include his wife, Naomi; four daughters, Alice Harrington, Brenda Fyke, Charlotte Hovland, and Teresa Schultz; a brother; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Summit.

A resident of the Lake View neighborhood, she died Wednesday in her home.

A 1980 column by the Tribune's Anne Kcegan told of Mrs. Kelly's care of one of only two known plaques remaining out of thousands erected during World War II to remember local young men killed in the conflict. He was a former resident of the Northwest Side. The Chicago-based Panama, which he formed in 1980, is a Latin jazz-fusion band. Mr. Torres was pianist, composer and musical director for the band, originally a Latin salsa band known as Rio Thing. He was commissioned in 1982 to write the musical score for a WTTW-TV program, "The Rehearsal." It received an Emmy for the best locally produced TV program.

Mrs. Kelly, a native of Newry, Northern Ireland, was inducted into the Chicago Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in 1965. Saturday in St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 4200 N. Sheridan Rd. Archbishop OTVIeara, headed relief agency INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Archbishop Edward T. O'Meara, who headed Catholic relief efforts for war and disaster victims worldwide, died Friday after a lengthy illness.

He was 70. Archbishop O'Meara, the spiritual leader for 200,000 Roman Catholics in the Indianapolis archdiocese, was diagnosed last summer with pulmonary fibrosis, a lung disease. He died at home, where he had been bedridden since Jan. 5. I he illness caused him to resign in September as president and chairman of Catholic Relief Services, which aids victims of disaster and war worldwide.

Archbishop O'Meara, who headed a 39-county archdiocese that covers most of the southern half of the state, traditionally delivered the invocation before the Indianapolis 500 auto race.
