DELLA CASA did not display the big voice usually associated with Metropolitan sopranos, but unleashed enough of it to indicate that behind her lyric singing she possesses a reserve of volume which she could unleash at will. She sang two arias, "Un bel di" from "Madam Butterfly" with warmth and feeling, and "Dove sono i bei mo-menti" from "The Marriage of Figaro" with a Mozartian touch. Her first seven numbers by Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, and Brahms were lightly sung, but her voice was always under control, with occasional touches of a vibrant quality. She let loose more of her vocal power in the "Butterfly" aria.

After the "Dove" aria, which opened the second part of the program, she turned to English for "In the Silence of Night" (Rachmaninoff), "Lullaby" (Cyril Scott) and "Stressa" (Winter Watts). Her "Lullaby" had the most color. THEN DELLA CASA went back to German for three Strauss songs, "Morgen, "Be-freit" and "Standchen," and finished with Vilia's song from "The Merry Widow" (Lehar). which had the highest note of evening. When she struck a high note, it was with clean attack and clarity of tone.

At all times she sang without apparent-effort and though her voice could not be considered heavy, her enunciation was so superb that even her lightest tones carried to all sections of the auditorium. Delia Casa sang three encores, "Chanson PopSaire" (Ravel), "Scalechtes Vetter" (Strauss) and "Einer Wird Komen" (Lehar). Arpad Sandor, who has appeared in Battle Creek with Rose Marie Brancato and Dorothy Maynor, played sympathetic accompaniments.
