By Shannon Resch For the Lansing State Journal There wasn't much power at Oldsmobile Park Saturday night either in the park or in the Lansing Lugnuts' lineup. The game between the Lugnuts and the Dayton Dragons was suspended because of power outages in the scoreboard and outfield lights. Play was stopped for a few minutes in the first inning, and again in the sixth for more than half an hour before the game was called with Dayton leading 7-1. Seth VanHovencq, Oldsmobile Park operations coordinator, says a breaker short-circuited, resulting in outages of several lights. "We had to shut the entire bank of lights down," to let the high-watt bulbs cool down, he said.

When the lights were brought back up, only half the bank of lights came on. Umpires ruled the park unplayable because of shadows, VanHoven said. The Board of Water and Light was expected to work on the problem throughout Saturday night. Catcher Chris Curry knocked in the Lugnuts' only run in the second inning with a sacrifice fly. Today's games are the next-to-last on Lansing's 2000 schedule. The season finale takes place at 6 p.m. Monday at Oldsmobile Park. The Lugnuts (33-34) can still post a winning record in the second half of the Midwest League season, even though they cannot qualify for the playoffs.

West Michigan, Michigan and Dayton (37-30) have earned the right to represent the Eastern Division of the league in the postseason. The remainder of Saturday's game will be made up today at 1 p.m., and the regularly scheduled game will begin 20 minutes after the first game is finished. Tickets to Saturday's game will be honored for both games. Before the game was suspended, the Lugnuts had managed to do little damage against the Dragons. Lansing starting pitcher Aaron Sams gave up seven hits and six earned runs in 3 23 innings of play, while Dayton starter Bobby Ma-dritsch limited the Lugnuts to four hits and one run while striking out five.
