The order of President Harding directing that all applications for revision of tariff rates, as autnorixea under the new Fordney-Mc-Curaber tariff law. shall be filed with, investigated ny and rinaily adjudicated by the Tariff Commission, makes this commission one of the most Important and powerful agencies of the Govern- enl. it w-lll rrom now n.

In the opinion of Federal officials, rank In importance with the Interstate Commerce Commission. Just before Congress adjourned an earnest effort waa made to get an appropriation which "would make It possible! for the commission to begin the expansion necessary for its proper runcttonmg unuer Its new authority. Congress, however, failed to make tne appropriation. The working fore. It is stated, will have to be more than doubled, and even then, it is claimed, the commission will be chorthanded.

The twelve-story business building at 104 to 112 East Twenty-fifth Street, the heart of the new silk district, was sold vesterday by the Braender Building and Construction Company to Frederick Brown, an The structure, which occupies a plot 100 by 100 feet, la of modern fireproof construction, equipped with freight and passenger elevators and a sprinkler system. The building is restricted against man ufacturing, being occupied mainly aa salesrooms of such high-class firms as the Stehll Silk Corporation, who hold the lease of the store and basement and first and second lofts; J. W. Porter tt manufacturers of underwear, and Bauer Black. Under new leases, the building will rent fronTFeb. 1. 1923.

for X11.C00. The property was held at SS00.000 and was sold entirely for cash above the first mortgage. The building wss erected twelve years ago by Philip Braender and was con sidered an example of the highest type of construction for such buildings In that vicinity. With this sale, the Braender estate has now disposed of the last of its realty holdings. Byrne A Bowman were the brokers In the trans action.

Other properties sold for the Braender estate by the same brokers are the twenty-story loft building at the southeast corner of Fourth Avenue and Twenty-fourth Street, the sixteen-story loft building at the southwest corner of Broadway ahd Fourth Street and the twelve-story loft building at 26-32 West Seventeenth Street. Brener Bays Seafleld Arms. Samuel Brener bought from Jules Brenchand the Scafield Arms, on the northwest corner of ITSth Street and Broadway, a six-story elevator apart ment house. The building has seven apartments on each floor and stores In the Broadway frontage. The structure fronts 103 feet on Broadway by 143 feet in depth and accommodates forty-six families.

James J. Martin was the Mrs. Christina Ilaffner sold 408 West Seventeenth Street, a five-story double. 23 by 82. adjoining the southwest corner of Ninth Avenue.

Crowd of 3,000 Bids for East Bronx Lots. A crowd of about throe thousand bid ders attended the opening session of the auction sale held yesterday by Joseph P. Day when 1.200 Pelham Bay Park lots were offered. Investors and builders were active in the bidding. M.

J. Kone bought the cornena of Middle town Road and Eastern Boulevard, an Irregular plot. 30 by 40 feet, for which he paid S3.500. An adjoining lot brought $1,800, and lots down the boulevard were sold for an average of $050, J. McNarney be ing among the succesful bidders.

The Metropolitan Life Insurance Com pany has authorized loans on bond and mortgage amounting to over S4.300.000.
