Maclay San Fernando Playing with blocks has been theorized to help preschoolers develop healthy brain patterns and support the kinds of skills that are later utilized in science and math. Join the library for a block-building play program. Each month will feature a different theme to inspire participants.

The event is open for children ages 1 to 12. There is no cost to participate. 2 and 8 p.m. CalArts, Modular Theater 24700 McBean Parkway, Valencia Often viewed as an influential precursor to the surrealist movement, "A Dream-play" was first composed and performed by August Strindberg in Stockholm in 1 907. The play tells the tale of the daughter of the Vedic god Indra's journey to earth and her experiences with the humans she meets.

All day Discovery Cube 11800 Foothill Los Angeles Engineers of all ages are invited to Discovery Cube LA to celebrate the last day of national Engineers Week. Build and test your own parachute before entering into the "hang-time" competition. At 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., NASA's Richard Stember will offer a presentation and question-and-answer session on the Orion Launch that took place in early December. General admission is $10.

7:30 p.m. J.R.'s Comedy Club 27630 The Old Road, Valencia James P. Connolly is a stand-up comedian best known for his playful and unique styling. In addition to having appeared on Comedy Central, HBO and VH1 Connolly is one of the most frequently played comedians on Sirius XM Comedy Channels and often makes guest appearances on the Bob and Tom Radio Show. Tickets are $15.

2 p.m. Canyon Theatre Guild 24242 Main Newhall This magical production, written and directed by Jackie Mellor Guin, is a perfect treat for the entire family. Enjoy an exciting show filled to the brim with catchy songs, dancing mice and laugh-out-loud routines. Come prepared to participate with many of the actors; you might even dance a number You won't want to miss this zany British Panto adaptation of the age-old tale of Cinderella. Maclay San Fernando This free event is for ages 1 2 and older. All of the art activities will be connected to the mind, body and spirit, in the idea of keeping a balanced foundation of health. Through art projects, participants will be able to express their own interpretation of the following activities: Soul Collage, Rainbow Mandalas, Meditation Bracelet, Animal Totems, Yin Yang Symbol of Balance and Peace Symbols. 11 a.m. William S.

Hart Park 24151 Newhall Newhall This event is perfect for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Head up the hill in William S. Hart Park to the mansion, where you and your children can do a craft project. Try simple crafts like making totem poles, designing rope art, constructing dreamcatchers and more. Afterwards, you can take a tour of the mansion or hang out in the shade.

The event is free, and all are welcome. Oldtown Newhall 6 p.m. 23920 Valencia Santa Clarita Old Town Newhall transforms from a bustling retail and dining destination by day to a thriving arts district by night, as Santa Clarita hosts the Thursdays Newhall series, presented by Galpin Subaru. Arts LAM returns as a free gallery for local artists. First Thursdays mean JAM Sessions, hosted by the Ford Theatre Foundation.
