He was proficient on the clarinet and saxophone and was a gifted jazz musician. He played professionally in Philadelphia and continued to play all types of music for enjoyment throughout his life. He was a loving husband to his wife of 42 years, Frances Kaplan, a loving father to his sons Elliot M.

Condolences can be sent to his son at medshane201 4yahoo.com. SWARTZ, Mark Cary Mark Cary Swartz was born on April 1 3, 1 960 in Santa Monica, the first child of Ray Swartz and Lynn Swartz-Hooker. He attended Santa Monica public schools and graduated from Samohi in 1979. Mark was a gifted athlete, but baseball was his true passion. He played the game throughout his life, from Little League to the Samohi Vikings and on to the adult leagues.

He earned an impressive collection of championship trophies along the way. After high school Mark joined Swartz Glass Company, the family business for three generations, and eventually owned and operated the company's store on Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles. Mark enjoyed dogs, motorcycles, Ford Mustangs, riding his bike, watching the Dodgers and partying with his buddies. He retired from the glass business in 2012.

In 2014 he was diagnosed with ALS, which he battled courageously. Mark's network of great friends, his mom, brother Mike, sisters Lauren, Dana and Erika, and niece Evan will always remember him, and miss him. During the last several weeks of Donna's life, an outpouring of love, affection, kindness, and words of comfort had a profound impact on her last days, showing her how many lives she touched and how deeply she was loved by so many. Donna was born in Santa Monica and grew up in Santa Monica and Westchester, California.

She graduated from Westchester High School and attended Santa Monica College and Cal State Long Beach. She worked in the entertainment industry as a personal assistant for over 30 years where she met many people who became life long friends. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family, movies, concerts, theatre, loved all genres of music, was a shopper extraordinaire and recently became an avid Dodger fan. She was a devoted daughter, sister, niece, aunt, grand aunt and friend, never missing an event in their lives or an opportunity to reach out. She is survived by her mother, Mary Kail, sister Carol Kail Baer, brother-in-law Nick Baer, nephew Jeff Baer, grand niece Neva Baer, niece Amy Baer McCabe (Esmond), grand nephew Hunter McCabe and loving partner of 30 years, Howard Brown.

She will be remembered and missed for her kindness, exuberance for life, laughter, incredible sense of style and devotion to family and friends. AD AMI Juanita February 17, 2016 de talented actress, loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and, recently, Great-Great Grandmother died on 1-17-2016 after an enriched life of 94 years. She is survived by her daughter, Robyn Shaffer. Her credits and contributions as an actress were substantial. She first came to Hoi lywood when she was under contract with David 0. Selznick.

Later, after working in Europe, she was the original Nurse Ratched in 'One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest'. She worked with the prestigious Old Globe in San Diego for several years under Jack O'Brian and continued to work with him on projects after that. She made her Broadway debut in 'Children of a Lesser God' that originated at the Mark Taper forum in L.A. She continued with 'Shadow Box' and 'The Killing of Jablonski' to name a few in this illustrious career. Her television credits were numerous as well.

She was in the groundbreaking 'Name of the Game' with Charles Boyer and Gene Barry, 'Soap', 'Frazier', 'Murder She Wrote', 'Gloria' with Burgess Meredith and Sally Struthers, and so many more. Her most recent contribution was the independent feature film 'Monday Nights at Seven' that is due to be released this year. She has had the privilege of working with such esteemed directors as Clint Eastwood, Hal Ashby, Martin Ritt and Sidney Furie. She enriched everyone's life that she touched and she will be sorely missed for her ferocious curiosity, vitality, incredible mind, and contagious and infectious love and lust for life, and all the pleasures that it offered which she enthusiastically embraced throughout hertime here. Luis Jesus Diaz was born May 25, fgg 1982, in Sun Valley, California to Jesus J-TS Diaz and Maria Trinidad Gomez. He was an accomplished newspaper professional for the Los Angeles Times, and an Army Veteran. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend who will be greatly missed but never forgotten. The love for his country was unique. His entire life all he wanted to do was help others, which he accomplished when he enrolled in the US ARMY.

He was stationed in South Korea, and later in active duty in Iraq. For his bravery, he received a number of awardsmedals, including the Regional Readiness Command Blood Fire award. After being Honorably Discharged from the US ARMY, he enrolled in Santa Monica Community College where he earned an Associate Degree. As soon as he concluded this phase of his education, he transferred to the University of Berkeley. He graduated with Honors in Media Studies and Communications.

Luis was known as the one to always get the family together. If Luis had a smile on his face, you would immediately know that he had been around his family. His family and friends were his pride and joy. During his spare time, Luis enjoyed the outdoors and loved going on hikes to enjoy nature. He also loved to read, cook, and bake, especially his famous coconut macaroons.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Mission Hills Catholic Mortuary in Mission Hill, California. The funeral will be on Saturday, February 20th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. The rosary is scheduled for Friday, February 19th at 6 p.m. Viewing of the body is scheduled for Friday, February 19th between 1 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Jill and Peter KONDO, Bernice Fuyuko 0ctober3, 1931 February 1, 2016 Bernice Fuyuko Kondo passed away on February 1, 2016 at the young age of 84, after a courageous battle with cancer. Bernice was born in 1931 in Koloa, Kauai, Hawaii, the second eldest child of Chiyo and Jitsuo Akimoto. She graduated from the University of Hawaii and became an elementary school teacher.

After her marriage in 1956 they moved to Oregon and then to Southern California, where she became a longtime resident of Torrance. Bernice is survived by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, Harry, daughters Diane and Sharon, cherished grandson Keo, sisters Alice Isoda and Violet Onishi, brothers Wallace Akimoto (Mitsi Sasaki) and Alvin Akimoto (Maizie) and many nieces and nephews. Her brother Paul Akimoto preceded her in death. She will be greatly missed by all. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 11am at Green Hills Memorial Chapel in RPV, with interment at a later date.

SHAPIRO, Vicki Vicki Gutin Shapiro passed away on February 16, 2016, from complications associated with anorexia. She was born to Meyer and Gayle Gutin in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she attended Woodward High School, and, in 1966, was crowned Miss Teenage Cincinnati. Vicki graduated from Smith College and attended Loyola Law School. She began working for the Screen Actors Guild in 1978, later becoming its Legal Affairs Director. Vicki sat on the Board of Trustees at the SAG Foundation, and volunteered her time at the Skirball Cultural Center, the Alzheimer Awareness Walk, and the Motion Picture Home.

She is survived by her adoring husband of 30 years, Bernard, with whom she sailed the seven seas. She was bubbe to Jacob, Sasha, and Soren, and is also survived by her stepchildren, Dean, and his partner Haim, as well as Bill, and his partner Naomi. Vicki's sister, Pamela Gross, her niece, Susannah Teague, and her grandniece Madeleine Teague, also mourn Vicki's loss. We will all miss her so much. A funeral service will be held at Hillside Memorial Park on Monday, February 22nd at 1:00 pm.

She graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1969. She married Richard Edward Llewellyn, II, in August of 1969. Anne worked for Capital Research Management Company in Los Angeles, California, from 1969 though 2012 and was a Senior Vice President of the Investment Company of America.

Anne and her husband retired to Naples, Florida in 2013. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Rick; her daughter, Katie; son, Matt; and her sister, Nancy Mitchell Lennartz. Cos Anjjd (Times September 19, 1940 February 14, 2016 Judith B. Leff of Encino, California, left ifi her family and friends on Sunday, February 14, 2016, surrounded by her husband and children. Judy was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on September 19, 1940, the second daughter of Phillip and Bessie Tanowitz. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Los Angeles, where she grew up surrounded by a large extended family and many life-long friends. After graduating from Los Angeles High School in 1958, Judy found the love of her life, Sol Leff.

Judy and Sol were married on July 10, 1960. Over more than 55 years, their love grew stronger each year as their family expanded to include 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Judy was passionate about life, and all who knew her saw her uniquely kind, gentle, and positive spirit. Throughout her life, she enjoyed an active social life with her friends, including playing tennis, pan, and mah jongg. But she was most passionate about her family, and especially her husband, Sol, with whom she traveled, played golf, and laughed.

She was so proud to have raised her three children with Sol, teaching them what love, marriage, and being a parent looked like; and encouraging them each to find their own happiness. Judy always had a glowing smile, especially when she talked about or spent time with her grandkids. Each of them knows how special they were, in their own way, to their grandmother. Judy will be missed by her husband Sol; her three children and their spouses, Karen David Rosenberg, Sheri Peter Miller, and Marc Leff Elin Petersdottir; her grandchildren and great grandchild, Ben, Jake, Matt, Abby, Michael, Jason, Caitlin, and Cooper; her sister, Marcia Silverstein; and all her dear friends. Susan Ritman Macdonald August 26, 1943 February 7, 2016 Susan Gail Ritman Macdonald passed away peacefully at home, February 7, 2016, she was 72 years old. Born in Chicago, IL to Howard and Ruth Ritman. Susan is survived by her husband of 23 years William D.

Macdonald. Susan graduated with honors in microbiology from Ohio State University, then moved to California in the early 70's, employed by UCLA. Susan led an active life style and was partners in a SCUBA diving vessel to dive the Channel Islands. Ms Macdonald was a curious, adventurous traveler to exotic dive locations world wide: New Guinea, Indonesia, The Red Sea, The Galapagos, Thailand, Micronesia, Melanesia, Burma, Africa, India, and more. Susan was a Secretary of the Algalita Marine Research Foundation board of directors for many years.

There, Susan helped bring awareness to the global problem of plastic debris in the open ocean as associate producer of "Synthetic the award winning educational film series. She teamed with her husband "Bill" who received the cherished NOGI award for Environment in 2014. The couple traveled to the world's most bio-diverse undersea waters to witness the very best the ocean had to offer. Susan and her husband Bill possessed the same dream. Together they fulfilled it.

The couple became known as the "dream team" by their friends, relatives and associates. Susan's kindness, warmth, devout environmentalism, and strong spirit will be greatly missed by her husband, family, and friends around the world..
