Excavation Fails to Turn Up Clue of Missing Essex Man Spectacular Spring Sheet Sale at The Wonderful World of Waterbeds Essentials: New Sheet Design Solid Percales Sets Designer Percales starting at 29(M) 83600 By MIKE DONOGHUE Free Press Staff Writer Excavation near an abandoned well in Milton Friday was unsuccessful in the latest effort to find a missing Essex man, Milton and Essex police said. Wilfred King III, 37, of Jericho Road was last seen alive Oct. 24, 1980, when he left his Jericho Road home. The man's bloodstained crutches were found a few days later in Colchester, and his four-wheel-drive vehicle was found a couple of weeks later in Williston. Milton Chief Erwin "Butch" Beam said the area around an old well on property on Cobble Hill Road was searched Friday without results.

Beam said Milton and Essex police closed off the area Thursday night after Milton police were told that a leather belt and piece of checkered cloth were uncovered by people renting the property, which is owned by Marshall Clark of Morrisville. State's Attorney Kevin Bradley obtained a search warrant for the property, according to Beam. Bradley was present during the digging by members of Milton and Essex police and the Milton Road Department, Beam said. The digging also was videotaped by Burlington Sgt. John J.

King, police said. Essex Lt. Robbie Yandow said King when last seen was wearing a checkered shirt, but the checkered cloth that was found appears to be different. Beam and Yandow said Clark is a brother of Calvin "Mickey" Clark. During several court hearings, Diane King, wife of the missing man, has acknowledge that "Mickey" Clark has been living with her.

Mrs. King has sued her teen-age son and her father-in-law, Wilfred King who she claims has possession of property she thinks should be hers. Superior Court Judge Alden T. Bryan ruled Nov. 22, 1982, that Joey King, and not his mother, should be responsible for his father's property until Wilfred King III is found or his death is established by authorities.

Last year Essex police borrowed a specially trained dog from New York State Police to sniff out clues about King in the Burlington Intervale. The dog was unsuccessful. 10 off any sheet with comforter purchase i WONDERFUL "The Waterbed Specialist" 40 Susie Wilson Rd. Essex Vt. Phone 879-1 700 WtTEIEDS WHAT'S COOKING? Larry Myott of Vergennes, speaking for the citizens committee that called the meeting, complained of "unchecked management defects" in the superintendent's office. Board Chairman Lynn Jackson declined comment Friday on the board's action. Potter said the petition calling for his resignation included "a lot of names of people who have never met me." He said the past year has been difficult because of the publicity surrounding the class ring case.

He said he hopes "to get back to the business in hand" during the coming year. Joan Burt, clerk for the district board, said more than 33 percent of the signatures came from the town of Addison. The petition was submitted by Tom Fisher, one of the instigators of the class ring discrimination complaint. Fisher said Friday the board's decision is "a step in the right direction." ft WE ALSO HAVE A FINE SELECTION OF PACK AND POTTED PERENNIALS.
