Judge King died Monday in a hospital in Pembroke Pines, Fla. While in Chicago, Judge King served in 1967-68 as deputy commissioner of con-aumer sales In the city Department of Consumer Weights and Measures. From 1960 to 1963, he was a Chicago Municipal Court commissioner in charge of an investigation of credit practices that led to prosecution and conviction of individuals, and agencies engaged in credit gyps and punitive garnishments. A 19S5 graduate of Loyola University Law School, Judge King was named in 1963 by then Gov. Richard Ogilvie to the three-member merit board for the Cook County sheriffs police.

HE WAS A professor of public administration at Loop City College when he resigned in 1970 to become director of the consumer bureau of the now defunct Chicago Today -newspaper. He later moved to Florida where he taught law and served for several years as an assistant state's attorney of Broward County. He had been a Broward County Circuit Court Judge for the last six years. Judge King, who lived in Davie, is survived by his wife, Catherine, and a sister. Romy Hammes is dead at 81, Kankakee philanthropist Las Vegas, South Bend, Honolulu and Fort Lee, N.J.

HE WAS A MAJOR contributor to. Catholic churches and schools and donated $300,000 to the University of Notre Dame for a campus bookstore. His contributions also financed seminaries in South America, a school in India and a boys' home in Italy. He is survived by his wife, Loretta; a son, Gerald; two daughters, Mrs. John Mowbary and Mrs.

Joseph Collins; two stepdaughters; 14 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three brothers; and four sisters. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Kankakee. ROMY HAMMES, 81.

a prominent businessman and philanthropist Kankakee, 111., who was involved in real estate developments in Illinois and several other states, died Tuesday at his home. Mr. Hammes was owner of Hammes Ford Sales, a truck and tractor dealership in Kankakee, and operated Ford Motor Co. dealerships in Chicago; De Kalb, South Bend, and Osh-kosh, Wis.
