21, 1973 Auxiliary Unit Plans to Host County Meet Plans for hosting the monthly meeting of the Carroll County Legion Auxiliary here Monday night, Nov. 26, were discussed by members of Maurice Dunn Unit No. 6 at their meeting Tuesday at the Legion hall. Mrs. Ralph Hoffmann and Mrs.

Maurice Prenger are cochairmen of the committee for the 8 p.m. county meeting. Members were asked to provide bars and cookies for the lunch. Mrs. John Beyerink unit president, thanked those who helped at the Veterans Day dinner, expressing appreciation for a good attendance and to the kitchen committee headed by Mrs.

Dale Bernhoitz. She read the monthly newsletter in which the mid-year conference was announced for Dec. 2 and 3 in Des Moines. Members were asked to submit contributions for a book of prayers to be presented to the district chaplain. Discussion was held concernling the purchase of a walker be placed on loan for use by children at the Carroll County Developmental Center for Handicapped Children.

The unit's Christmas meeting and party is set for Dec. 18. Turkey will be furnished for the potluck dinner, and there will be a $1.00 gift exchange. Mrs. Arnold Witt is committee chairman.

A Christmas donation was sent to the Iowa Soldiers Home in Marshalltown, and other Christmas obligations will be met. Mrs. Witt received the door prize. Staiert Baby Is Baptized Michael Thomas Staiert, son of Mr. and Mrs.

David Staiert of Route 3, Carroll, was baptized Nov. 18 at St. Augustine Church, Halbur, by the Rev. Victor Kollasch. Attending were Mr.

and Mrs. Jim Hindman and Margaret of Pleasantville; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Staiert and Deanna, and Mr. and Mrs.

Douglas Staiert of Arcadia; and Joyce Hindman of Carroll. Mrs. Hindman and Joseph Staiert were sponsors. The group had brunch afterward at the Carroli Country Club and spent the afternoon at the David Staiert home, where lunch was served. Michael was born at St.

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs.

Paul Packer of Lake City and Mr. and Mrs. Lenard Suhr of Scribner, Neb. Red chrysanthemums decorated the front of the church for the 3 p.m. double ring service read by the Rev.

Stewart Congdon. Mrs. George Schaffer Jr. was organist and Mary Perry, soloist. Ushers were Roger Davis, Keith Steuhmer and Steve O'Connor.

Miss Packer's father gave her in marriage. Her maid of honor was Lynda O'Connor; bridesmaids were her sisters, Jean and Karen Packer. Pete Diederichsen of Scribner was best man. The groom's brother, Dennis Suhr, and Glenn Davis of Herman, were groomsmen. The bride wore a long princess-style gown of white madeira lace with puffed sleeves and ruffled hemline.

Five rows of pearls enhanced th ehigh neckline. Her long veil was held by a small jeweled crown. She carried a cascade of pink carnations and roses. Her attendants were attired in ruby-red velvet dresses designed with ruffled necklines and long sleeves. They carried ball-shaped bouquets of multicolored flowers.

The reception was held in the church feliowship hall. After a short honeymoon Mr. and Mrs. Suhr will live at 3412 North Dodge Street, Omaha, where he is employed at Sutherland Lumber Company. Mrs.

Suhr is a student at C. E. School of Commerce, Omaha; her busband is a graduate of the same school. Wrong Thing to Put in Washing Machine ALGONA, lowa (AP) Tossing a pair of jeans soaked with gas into a washing machine brought an instantaneous response for an Algona homemaker. Mrs.

Truman Shackelford escaped injury in the incident Monday, but the blast tore the lid of the washing machine. She had been painting and soaked the jeans in gas to remove paint. VFW POSITION Jim Robertson of Carroll has been appointed a national aidede-camp for 1973-74 during the 75th anniversary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The appointment was made by Ray R. Wright, 65, Oskalousa, has been charged by the Iowa Bureau of Criminal Invesligation (BCI) and the Mahaskal County attorney with "inciting and advising murder." He was arrested Tuesday by BCI agents and the Mahaska County sheriff.

Wright was in custody Tuesday in Mahaska County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bond. CANCER MEETING The Carroll County Chapter of the American Cancer Society will hold its quarterly meeting at 8 p.m. Nov. 27 at the Standard Farm Center. Mrs.

Shirley Smith of Jewell, official representative of the Cancer Society for central Iowa, will be in attendance. A preliminary report on plans for the 1974 Crusade will be presented at the meeting. Club, Mrs. Richard Daniel Pledge Ritual Conducted at Epsilon Chi The Beta Sigma Phi sorority pledge ritual was conducted for five new members at a meeting of Epsilon Chi chapter Tuesday night at Mrs. Gary Stark's home. The group includes Mrs. Michael Benton, Mrs.

Larry Fair, Mrs. Paul Haaf, Mrs. James Mann and Mrs. James Myrtue. Mrs.

4 at Mrs. Thraen's home. CEA Discusses Faculty Party Plans for the faculty Christmas party were discussed at the general assembly of the Carroll Edueation Association meeting Tuesday afternoon. Additional emergency fuel conservation measures were brought up, to be discussed in depth later. A resolution accepted by the west central district was read before the group.

The next general assembly meeting will be held after Thanksgiving. CHRISTMAS PROGRAM The Christmas program for the Carroll Community elementary school will be "'The Magic Christmas Bell," to be performed by fifth and second graders on Dec. 17. Sixth graders will ring the Swiss bell durling the program. Corporation, Iowa City, jointly announced that the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System has approved the acquisition by Associated Bank of 80 per cent of the shares of Iowa County, Savings Bank, Marengo, and all the shares of Leasing, Des Moines, The effect of the acquisitions will be to merge Associated Bank and Iowa County Bank, with Associated Bank Corporation as the surviving company.

Associated Bank presently owns 98.5 per cent of the outstanding shares of Iowa Trust and Savings Bank, Estherville. Iowa County Bank Corporation presently owns 67 per cent of the outstanding shares of Iowa County Savings Bank and all of the outstanding shares of Leasing, Inc. which is engaged in the business of leasing office, printing and x-ray equipment and other general personality items. The companies, Associated Bank Corporation and' Iowa County Bank Corporation, are attempting to secure the clearance of the Securities and Exchange Commission in order that the proposed merger can be submitted to a vote of the shareholders of the two companies. -0 Four paintings by Iowa artists have been selected for reproduction in Northwestern Bell's 1974 appointment calendar.

Every year, the calendars feature original works by artists from each of the five states served by the company Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.
