TWO MASON CITY GLOBE-GAZETTE, JUNE 19 193-1 OWNERS VOTE ON CAPITAL RETURN Stockholders of Northwestern States Cement Company in Special return of capital to the stockholders of the Northwestern States Portland Cement company was voted at a special meeting in the company offices Tuesday. This action followed the reorganization of the company as an Iowa corporation instead of a West Virginia concern, under the laws of which such payments wore not pos- sible. Follows GtsiJ'rstI Trend. This vote of the stockholders lol- i lows the general trend of all mining rompanies, in which, of course, the cement industry can be classified, As the original investment in stone and clay becomes exhausted those funds become available to the: stockholders who in effect made the original investment in raw materials. Practically 90 per cent of the outstanding stock of the company was represented at the meeting in which action was taken by unanimous vote of the stock present and represented, Inasmuch a.i this was special meeting no other business was transacted or discussed.

I Two Mason Cityans were rcspon- sible for the establishment of the i engraving company. Allen Putton and Kenneth Waughtal. A year ago they saw the need in Mason City for an engraving plant, for much of the commercial art work of Mr.

Pat ton's was being sent out of town. Mr. Waughtal was interested in engraving, so they pooled their interests c.ncl purchased their first equipment. At present the plant is equipped to produce newspaper cuts of standard sizes, but expansion plans arc in view for tho future so that all classes of engravings can be produced. "Pholo engraving is a matte of personal skill rather lluui equipment." said Mr.

Patton in comment- I SMOOTH AND HOW ing on the plant. "There are 26 operations that every cut has to go through. Each operation is distinct in Itself but a slip on any one may spoil the whole job." For the uninitiated, it was explained that photo engraving is a process of copying a photo on to a glass -negative, printing this on to metal in such a way that certain arcr.s of the metal will resist acid and other areas will be etched out with nitric acid. Other Members Added. Since the formation of the company other members have bee i added to the staff.

Safford Lock is the nesvs photographer, Kenneth Waughtal operates the engraving Here and There camera and Allen charge of etching Patton is in and finishing. Tiederman assists Mr. Waughtal with the engraving and Dave Murphy assists Mr. Patton with the art work. Margaret Patton is in charge of the office.

Mr. Patton has moved his commercial art studio from the former location on Stale street to the Kayenay Engraving plant, where the art work, engraving and photography of the Mason Cityans dovetail with each other. It in expected that the company will soon branch out in the engraving field, including the production of all types of advertising engravings, etc. CHURCH SCORES PROFIT MOTIVE Brethren Conference Takes Stand Against Liquor, Military Drill.
