Manhattan, auto appll- 1Iry1- Tork convention closed as tho moot memorable In our history." Repeat Orders Already Censing. It was fuund by tho manufacturers that many buyers who hod already re ceived their goods for tho Fall were attending the exhibition' and buying more goods, and J. H. Carmlchael of lckhara-Koreman. said this was so general that he expected tho season to te the moat prosperous in the baitory of tho trade.

The convention passed a resolution tn which It expressed the gratitude of the association to the Mayor and other city ofltciaU. the trade papers and daily pre, me trade organisations which fos tered the exhibition, for the efforts which bad led to tho success of tho ex- nioition. New officers of tho assoclstion wore also elected, beaded by Fred Voiland of Topeka. as Resident. The Vice President elected were Sol Schloss.

was the chief booster for New York, as he said the exhibition bad proved that this city draws tho biggest gathering of real buyers. It was estimated that between 80.000 ond 10O.0OO persons had vlsted the Gar- aen during tho week. About fl.O"0 at tended1 each day, ond on three nights tho Style Show filled every seat in the house and all standing room. Tho great ad vantage ef the convention because of the large number of visitors, from the point of view of the trade, was the number of friendships and business acquaintances established, and the belter understanding established between men who have dealt together heretofore only at a distance. Oppose' Price-Raising Legislation.

Tho convention also went 'on record against any legislation which would raise the price, of clothing to the consumer. A resolution protesting against wholesalers doing a retail business without conducting separate establishments for that purpose was passed, and a committee was appointed to attempt to find soma legsl way of dealing with tho situation. Discounts for various lines of clothing were also recommended for presentation to tho wholesalers, so as to bring about uniform discounts tn tho trade. A resolution of thanks was ls extended to the New Tork Men's and Boys' Apparel Industries, which invited the association to hold Its convention her, and to Alfred J. Silbersteln.

Besides, the collieries were not in shape to turn out a maximum tonnage, as rule, until a certain amount of repair work, cleaning up and pumping has been done. Output has been increasing steadily day by day. however, and next week It should be back to I or 10 per cent, of normal. Buyers of percaln and other printed cotton fabrics of a staple nature are keeping a weather ey an cotton, for hi "course of tho staple during the next few daye will doubtless spell higher prices on standard goods of "this construction. According to a representative of one well-known concern, however. If prices on the finished goods were advanced enough to give tho printers all the nroft to which they were legitimately entitled, the Increases would have to be such that they would atop buying to a very large extent. Higher Rug Pricea Are Coming. Inquiries made in the floor coverings trade yesterday brought to light the fact that about the only thing definite at present in connection with the coming Spring season Is that prloes will be higher. Ordinarily prices of Spring goods are announced on or about Oct.

1. but this year, due to ths fact that the middle of September finds the big producers with Quantities of Fall goods yet to be made and shipped, the chances are that the opening will be deferred. A general opening may possibly not come until after Election Xay. Buying for Fail continues active, and tho call for rugs la such that buyers are aald to be taking anything they can get. regardless of quality or pattern.

Special order business In carpets also is heavy, and In some cases will 'Veep looms engaged through tho remainder of tho year. A Change, in Their Buying. A change In the way buyers who come to this city are operating was cony merited on yesterday by tho sales manager of a large company making branded lines of women's hosiery, underwear and gloves. As a re trull of the forced business of the period following the war." he said, retail buyers formed tho habit of comlr.s to this market primarily to look Tor cheap merchandise. This inclination thev have clung to.

I find they do verv little buying of the regular branded lines while here, but primarily occupy their time with hunting cheap lots which they can dispose of tn qui-k sales. They evidently prefer to do their buying of the brsnded merchandise when the salesmen roach them on tho road. Not Enough Infants' Wear? Thot Inadequate stocks of Infants' garments and aoccsr ories are carried by a large number of shops. Including the big department stores, and are the cause of a substantial loss of business was declared by a resident buyer yesterday. In corroboration, he cited the experience of his wife, who went into a number of large stores for some baby clothes.

In every one she found that either the oolor or the particular size she wanted was not in stock. He said that, finally, she was forced to do the buying of these articles in a neighborhood store. Business In Ribbons. Ribbon manufacturers continue to await the improvement in demand which they expect will accompany the change in seasons.

Buying during the past week continued light and waa mainly confined to the narrow widths. In this class the picot edges are most active, but even here buyers continue to take only as much merchandise as they know they can sell without difficulty. Metal lic narrow ribbon sales are growing. and these will probably be a big feature of the Fall business. There Is soma increase in the demand for wide ribbons to be uaod as dress rashes ta combina tion with a metal ornament, the business passing is comparatively small Hairbow ribbons continue, in restricted a.

Special to TA York Time: CHICAGO. Sept. 15. John J. Mitchell, a IMrectof of the Pullman Com Dan and Chairman of the Illinois Merchants Banking Group of Chicago, stated today that no plan ror a segregation of the Pullman Company's operations is pending at present.
